Round 1 of Divisions C and B starts in a few weeks. Here are the puzzle variants for Tents and Hitori with some example puzzles so that you have time to get acclimatised. Please ask any questions about the rules of these puzzles below.
Edited to include Domino Hitori instructions as they were missed off in v1.

Re: Division C and B 2021-22
The rules for Domino Hitori are missing. I assume that it's standard Hitori rules except that rather than shading individual squares you shade dominoes which must not touch orthogonally?
Re: Division C and B 2021-22
That's exactly it. I've replaced the IB to contain these instructions. Thank you!
Re: Division C and B 2021-22
Here we are! The 2021-22 season begins now with Tents and Hitori.
Please download and print the puzzles. You can complete them in any order at any point between now and Tuesday 7th December.
For each puzzle, remember to time yourself honestly as to how long it takes.
When you are finished all of the puzzles, or as many as you are able to, please email adam@ukpuzzles.org your times for each puzzle and the answer key for each puzzle (to ensure that you have understood how each solution is supposed to look).
If you are not in Divisions B or C, your times will be entered onto an all-comers scoreboard, which will not score points in the UK Puzzle League. If you are in Divisions B or C, the solver with the most points in Division C will receive 10 credits, the second will receive 9 credits and so on. If two or more solvers score the same number of points, then the fastest total time (spent on completed puzzles) will score the higher number of credits. If you are new to the UK Puzzle League, you can join in Division C late. Division B is similar, but since it is fixed at 5 members for the season, the person in first place gets 5 credits, second gets 4 credits and so on.
If you have any questions, please ask via email (adam@ukpuzzles.org)
Please do not discuss the puzzles in the forum until the competition is declared closed.
Have fun!

Re: Division C and B 2021-22
I didn't get a chance to look at the IB until last night. There's a lot of variations so I'm excited. And some of them seem like they might be hard, so hopefully I don't get stuck! Good luck to everyone!
Re: Division C and B 2021-22
Evening all. For those of you attempting the puzzles still, Puzzle 20 is broken, and Puzzle 16 is non-unique, and I will accept either solution.
Re: Division C and B 2021-22
Thanks everyone, Round 1 is closed! Thanks very much to Sam Cappleman-Lynes for helping me to fix a lot of errors in the initial draft of this round. Lots of you also had some issues in your first attempts, and there was a real mix of puzzlers going straight through a puzzle or getting bogged down. However, maximum points for that round go to Maurice and Liane who avoided getting bogged down too much! Division B are in blue and Division C are in red.
Maurice Blount - 150 points - 51m52
Liane Robinson - 150 points - 53m23
Michael Collins - 150 points - 56m15
Thomas Powell - 150 points - 62m05
Jeffrey Dick - 150 points - 62m59
Eva Myers - 150 points - 66m04
AJ Moore - 150 points - 72m57
Emma McCaughan - 144 points - 60m06
Paul Smith - 135 points - 65m13
Next round will be in January. Exact dates will be known when the WPF release their Grand Prix dates.

Re: Division C and B 2021-22
The preliminary Puzzle Grand Prix results are out. Here are the Division C and B rankings - please let me know if you have any appeals against your scores go through and I'll adjust here.
Division C
Thomas Powell - 267
Jeffery Dick - 169
Roderick Grafton - 163
Liane Robinson - 143
Paul Smith - 74
A big win for Thomas Powell here with a strong showing, and Jeff just edges out Roderick to pick up 9 credits. Thomas opens up a 2 point lead at the top of the table.
Division B
Emma McCaughan - 285
Maurice Blount - 276
Eva Myers - 270
AJ Moore - 239
Just one puzzle separates the whole division here, but Emma takes Round 2! This closes up the league table significantly, but Maurice has a big lead over everyone else.

There's about a month now until Round 3 of these competitions, which is another set of Advanced puzzles. Here are the instructions for the proposed types and some examples so you can take a look through them.

Re: Division C and B 2021-22
I have a doubt about Skyscraper Fillomino. Does a Skyscraper clue see runs of consecutive numbers? For example, could a 4 clue see 4444 and be satisfied?

Re: Division C and B 2021-22
Oh, I see the example clears that up and they do not see consecutive runs, but I think I have an alternative solution to the example:
Does
1422
5433
5443
5551
Work? Essentially the 3 bends the other way and the 1 and 2 are transposed.

Re: Division C and B 2021-22
Yes, that’s an alternate solution. Sam helped me work on the competition one, We’re convinced the actual one will be unique for you.

Re: Division C and B 2021-22
Apologies everyone. Puzzle 19 is nowhere near unique. I used some very dodgy reasoning near the beginning and there are many solutions. I won't use the times or the points for Puzzle 19 towards the rankings.
Re: Division C and B 2021-22
This round is now closed.
Firstly, thank you to Sam for his support with testing this round. There were a lot of puzzles which took a lot of work to get solvable, and this is why Puzzle 19 ended up still broken and Puzzle 10 wasn't quite unique. On the first pass there were a lot more broken than that, and I'm very grateful that we managed to put a round together.
Secondly, thanks to all of you for your persistence. It seemed that everyone had puzzles that they found really challenging in this set alongside ones that flowed more smoothly, and for the first time it's more down to getting the puzzles out than getting the puzzles fast. Puzzles 6, 14 and 20 caused particular grief and I'll send the solutions out for those who want to see what the intended goal was. Nobody embodies this more than AJ, who battled for over half an hour with the Skyscrapers Fillomino, but defeated it and ended up with the top time in Division B. Similarly, Jeff lost more than 20 minutes to the same puzzle but ended up taking Division C as the only one there to solve the lot.
Division B is in blue, C is in red.
AJ Moore - 70 points - 74m29
Jeffrey Dick - 70 points - 86m35
Thomas Powell - 66 points - 65m14
Eva Myers - 62 points - 90m55
Maurice Blount - 61 points - 63m43
Roderick Grafton - 58 points - 77m49
Paul Smith - 47 points - 63m30
Liane Robinson - 6 points - 7m40
Division C has turned into a bit of a two horse race at the halfway point, with Liane's illness setting her back a bit as Thomas holds onto a one point lead.
Division B has closed up a bit after Maurice fell at the last fence, failing to solve Puzzle 20, with everything to play for.
Round 4 is the next round of the Puzzle GP in early April, set by Serbia.

Re: Division C and B 2021-22
Here are my solutions for Puzzles 6, 14 and 20 from that round.
The Prime Snake, I wonder if people missed the rule about outside clues without circles had to be a non-prime number of cells used? The Hex Snake, I wonder if people had turns that were too tight?
Please let me know if you think you've found any alternate solutions, or want any other solutions shared.

Re: Division C and B 2021-22
Well, I suddenly realised the solution to the puzzle I failed on the drive back from the cinema this evening. Good job subconscious.
Congratulations to Jeff, who still would have won on time with that solve added.

Re: Division C and B 2021-22
I couldn't see how to get a single foothold in the Skyscraper.
For both the Prime and Hex Snakes, I made so many mistakes that continued rubbing out and refilling left me confused as to what I'd even marked on the sheet any more. I should have taken the time penalty, printed out a clean sheet, and gone again.
That would have been good enough for the Hex Snake. However it still wouldn't have by itself fixed my Prime snake as I had a complete brain blockage on the snake having a cell 38 after cell 37. Once I'd decided that the snake ended at 37 I could not solve it
Re: Division C and B 2021-22
For me, the starting point was row 3 and column 4 - R3C4 must be strictly greater than all other numbers in R3. This means that large shapes in rows 4-6 are "boxed in" by row 3. It also means that R3C4 can't be 1, nor can it go left/right, so it must connect either to R2C4 or R4C4 (and no further vertically because of the 5 clue on C4). If it connects to R2C4 then column 4 must be X44567 - the "boxing in" of row 3 leaves only 18 cells. I'd convinced myself this wasn't possible (I think column 1 becomes impossible due to the 1, 2 being forced in R3C1,2 , with the 2 shape going up into row 2, leaving nowhere for R2C1 to go). So R3C4 must connect to R4C4 and there are 19 cells to fill with at least 3 shapes of sizes at least 4,5,6. From there I did a lot of guessing, but I'm sure there's some other clever stuff going on that I couldn't spot at the time!eratosthenes wrote: ↑Thu 10 Mar, 2022 5:15 pm

Re: Division C and B 2021-22
Here are the scores for Round 4, finally, sorry.
Division C
Roderick Grafton - 291
Jeffery DIck - 227
Liane Robinson - 195
Thomas Powell - 100
Roderick brings his strongest performance of the year so far and Jeff takes over at the top of the division with two rounds to go in what looks like a two horse race.
Division B
AJ Moore - 367
Michael Collins - 361
Maurice Blount - 266
Eva Myers - 237
Emma McCaughan - 225
AJ just edges out Michael to take the maximum credits and come to within 1 point of the top of the table. Michael's 4 credits also closes the gap at the bottom of the division, so the next two rounds are very much live.
The fifth round is in around a month, with the Nanro and Yajilin variants mentioned above.

Re: Division C and B 2021-22
Sorry, I'm a bit late to seeing the example puzzles for the variants. I think the 4 clue in the example cave nanro is not satisfied through cave rules.
Re: Division C and B 2021-22
Correct Jeff. Good news is that means you understand the rules properly! I’m confident the competition puzzle works. We checked that much more carefully.
