Re: 2021 World Sudoku+Puzzle Convention

I thought I'd try my best at a UK results round up, given that I didn't have much time to actually participate myself. I'm not entirely sure whether the main Sudoku and Puzzle competitions were aggregated by total score, as the results page only seems to give the ranks. As results are only given by ...

Re: UKPA club nights - questionnaire

I've still had only a few responses, but thank you to everyone who has responded so far. I think that's enough to give this a properly organised go, which is definitely good news to me I'll look to set up the first in a regular series of these meetings in the next week or two. I think one of the key...

Re: Tents

Thanks for the post Adam. I do feel duty bound to make a post saying the phrasing of the rules: “tents don’t touch each other, not even diagonally” fails to stand up to even the most basic scrutiny, and can very easily be improved upon :) my suggestion is: "different tents must not be placed in...

I’ve had a few responses so far, thank you for those, but would be good to get a few more still before deciding. Please do fill in the form if you think this might be something you’d be interested in

Re: UKPA club nights - questionnaire

Hmm… so with any in person meet-ups in the future, I was thinking most probably week-day evenings at a pub. But maybe if people are coming from further afield then that might mean an afternoon at the weekend, to give people some travel time. That kind of thing would probably need advance signups and...

Re: UKPA club nights - questionnaire

If there’s anything else the form isn’t capturing, then please feel free to leave a comment here.

I should add that although the primary focus is uk based solvers, I don’t see why solvers from further afield couldn’t join if the time zone differences allow

UKPA club nights - questionnaire

Hi everyone, Earlier this year I tried to organise some zoom meetings for UK based solvers to socialise. There wasn’t much organisation beyond linking them to the WPF’s Grand Prix rounds. I’d like to give this a go again with a bit more thought and organisation. If this sounds like something you mig...

Re: UKPA Monday evening Zoom drop-ins

I don’t think I can host anything this week, but hopefully that isn’t stopping anyone who wants to get together and discuss! I have meant to start organising a sort of regular club night in a slightly less slap-dash way for a while now, but haven’t quite got around to it. First thing is to be a bit ...

Re: UKPA Yajilin Contest (10 Sep - 13 Sep)

Thanks for the contest Sam! It’s fair to say I didn’t leave myself the best slot to take part so I’m not expecting a stellar result, but I enjoyed the puzzles I managed in time, and also out of time finishing off the frustrating ones I worked on during time without having any score to show for the e...

Re: Puzzles at the Mind Sports Olympiad in London on Sunday

Yeah I hope they get back to on-site competitions too. Vint is an impressive website and I’m glad they could enable the MSO to happen, but at the end of the day computer generated puzzles and no pencil marks isn’t the best format for a competition. I had been practicing on the vint site on and off -...

Re: 2021 WPF Sudoku and Puzzle GPs

Feels like I'm posting to myself here sometimes, but I'll assume at least some other people find this interesting: We finally have round 8 results for the Puzzle GP, with Freddie getting another very creditable podium position, 2. Freddie Hand 916.8 22. Chris Bryant 575 25. Neil Zussman 563 I think ...

Re: UKPA Yajilin Contest (10 Sep - 13 Sep)

Happy to help! Couple of other minor points on the instructions: For diagonal yajilin, the arrows end up being off-kilter so they don’t point through the grid corner to corner. Maybe it’s therefore worth adding that diagonal specifically means multiples of 45 degrees? For transparent tapa, it’d be m...

Re: UKPA Yajilin Contest (10 Sep - 13 Sep)

Are the competition puzzles all 6x6 grids? If not, you should (a) remove the bit in the instructions saying that the examples are a true reflection of the contest grid dimensions, and probably also (b) explicitly point out that grid dimensions may vary significantly from the examples. (I added that ...

Re: 2021 WPF Sudoku and Puzzle GPs

Here are the preliminary results for round 8 of the Sudoku GP. When i looked the other day, my solutions hadn't been saved and my results weren't on the leaderboard - so worth checking if you don't seem to have a result on the website. Top 3 UK: 21. Freddie Hand 561 43. Tom Collyer 475 60. Jeremy Ko...
