Re: UK Puzzle League Division C 2023-2024

That's the end of the round. It seems like it was a little fiddly, with all solvers coming unstuck on one puzzle each, but different ones each time, except Liane, who takes the win, and the fastest time to boot, so definitely deserved! Liane Robinson - 101 points - 44m42 Steve Barge - 98 points - 49...

Re: UK Puzzle League Division C 2023-2024

Apologies everyone, I definitely didn't spend enough time thinking about answer keys. Anything you try to submit to work for the unusual rules I'll do my best to interpret. Here's what I should have said in advance though. Puzzles 1, 2 and 4: For any empty cells, use an X to signify these. Puzzle 5:...

Re: UK Puzzle League Division C 2023-2024

Evening! It's been pointed out that Puzzle 6 (Eight Winds) uses some unconventional rules that were not clarified in the IB. Winds in this puzzle are allowed to cross at cell vertices. Looking more closely at the 2021 set, I see that this didn't happen last time and I didn't make this clear before o...

TomTom

TomTom is a mathematical puzzle which is basically the same as KenKen if you know that puzzle.

Here is my guide to some basic techniques.

Re: UK Puzzle League Division D 2023-2024

That's Round 5 finished! I was pleased to see that everyone found these puzzles reasonably straightforward and it led to a close contest, edged by just 2 seconds in the end by Alex, and then a second win of the year for Desirée. Desirée WIlson - 9m26 Alex Robinson - 9m48 Hunter Brennan - 9m50 Liane ...

Re: 2024 UK Results Thread

The results for the unusual Round 2 of the Puzzle GP are now out. The bumper high maximum total meant that many scored higher than average, and Dylan Gibbs scored particularly well amongst the high positions, while Pat Stanford (#194) and Desirée Wilson (#206) had particularly high scores in the mai...

Re: 2024 UK Results Thread

Results from Round 2 of the Sudoku Grand Prix are out. I had a horrible time, really struggled with the Skyscraper Sudoku. However, lots of other UK solvers had a great time! Matt Siegfried continued on his fine form with a personal high score of 463 points. Zoe Ashford got her highest position so f...

Re: UK Puzzle League Divisions A and B 2023-2024

Evening all Unfortunately there was pretty low turnout for Round 1 this year, though I thought it was a nice puzzle set if you want to follow up on it. Division B: AJ Moore - 39.4 points Eva Myers - 26 points Division A: Freddie Hand - 123.22 points Adam Bissett - 73.6 points Maurice Blount - 72 poi...

2024 Puzzle Grand Prix

What do we think of the IB for Round 2? Feels like a Puzzle Ramayan. The examples are pretty hard, I wonder how many points they’d be worth.

Re: 2024 UK Results Thread

Thanks Tom - impressive performances considering the website difficulties indeed. Todd Davies' debut is indeed impressive and we also had five other new UK puzzlers amongst the 34 categorised UK solvers where in general this set was tough for us to get record scores. Aside from Sam's return, congrat...

Re: UKPA Open Sudoku and Puzzle Tournament 2024

These rounds look great! I’m super looking forward to the two linked puzzle rounds. I have two small queries: For Japanese Sums in round 2, can we assume that any ? clues are single digit sums as double digit sums will be given as ?? clues? For Shakashaka Cipher in round 1, it’s clear that the same ...

2024 UK Results Thread

Round 1 Results of Sudoku Grand Prix are out, and it's lovely to see Sam Cappleman-Lynes back with a #25 position. Beyond that, many of our usual suspects scored in the top 150 with their season opener, but the more notable performances were slightly further down the leaderboard. Zoe Ashford achieve...

Nurikabe is a shading puzzle which uses a nice mix of techniques. I'm sure there are more that I've not mentioned - it's not a fast type for me, but here is a guide and a few examples ahead of the upcoming beginners contest. https://fuchsia.parallelepiped.co.uk/NurikabeExamples1.PNG https://fuchsia....
