Re: 2023 UK Results Thread
So I've compared with 2022, and where UK players don't appear on that list, I've had a quick check back to see if they've played before or not. The strongest performance by a player who certainly looks new is Zoe Ashford who finished 6 puzzles and finished in #351, (ahead of Freddie, this appears to...

Re: 2023 UK Results Thread
Great results gentlemen. Given the size of the field, top 100 is increasingly impressive. I'm delighted with my 151th place so you must be flying! 31st is great, Tom! Hope you can keep it up. I think it's worth keeping track of the rest of us, even if we're not in the top 100, especially with the ra...

Re: UK Puzzle League Division D 2022-23
Round 4 is now finished. It was well reviewed by those who finished them, and all solvers got through the whole set, so worth a look when you'd like some introductory Masyu. Great job to Hunter and Jack! Jack Lawrence - 6m58 Eva Myers - 9m26 Hunter Brennan - 25m0 Emma Kingston - 29m50 Emma is still ...

Puzzle Ramayan 2023
Evening
Just a heads up the Puzzle Ramayan is due to start this weekend. Same kind of structure as last year, 60 minute rounds, 6 types of puzzle plus two variants, but this year they’re leaving it open for a week to solve.

Yes, that makes sense. I think looking for those chains which connect to the walls is the technique I’ve been starting to use more.

Heyawake
I'm starting to like Heyawakes but I also feel like I keep getting to a point where I just have to guess and hope. http://fuchsia.parallelepiped.co.uk/HeyawakeExample.PNG This is Tawan Sunathvanichkul's Heyawake from his lovely Tam Box Bulletin (issue 8). I've worked it through to nearly the end. Am...

Aqre
This is the Joseph Howard's example Aqre from the USPC 2022 booklet.
I feel like I can muddle my way through an Aqre, but I also feel like I'm missing something. What should I be looking at to make progress from here please?

Re: UK Puzzle League Division D 2022-23
That's Round 3 complete! A quicker set of puzzles this time out, with lots of correct solutions, and a pleasing mix of times so that lots of people got a chance to shine. The round's best total time was from Jack Lawrence who had relatively modest times on the small puzzles but was a good chunk quic...

Re: UK Puzzle League Division C 2022-23
There we go! Round 1 is over. Seems to have been a bit tougher than I was aiming for, but good determination from our solvers resulted in correct solutions to all except Puzzle 7, which foiled half our group. It's congratulations to Georgiy, who follows up his wins in Division D with the leading res...

Hidoku
Hidoku is a simple puzzle with the potential for advanced techniques. I tend to do it with number placement, but I'm sure there will be solvers using a path notation.
Here is a Puzzle Guide I wrote to show some key techniques.

Re: UK Puzzle League Division D 2022-23
Round 2 is now complete! I found these Star Battles interesting to write. You can't make a particularly small Star Battle, so I tried to focus on keeping the logic relatively accessible. It turns out that a couple of the puzzles were a bit on the harder side, but it looks like people managed to have...

For those who downloaded this booklet early on, please note that Puzzle 9 had one extra border and was unsolvable. The v2 download now available has corrected this.

Re: UK Puzzle League Division D 2022-23
Round 1 is now over! It was good to see a lot of new names, and it seemed to be a puzzle type that people did well. Puzzle 10 was much slower than expected with the printing error making the puzzle seem easier than it was when we tested it, so apologies there. Division D members are coloured in red....
