Post by detuned »

Congratulations to Sam Cappleman-Lynes, who has impressively claimed the UK Sudoku Championship on debut. Sam solved 14 of the 16 puzzles in a strong performance, and now qualifies for the UK team at the World Sudoku Championships later this year in Prague. Joining Sam on the team is runner-up Heather Golding, who was hot on Sam's tails.

1. Sam Cappleman-Lynes - 623pts
2. Heather Golding - 612 pts
3. Ned Walker - 566 pts

A full list of UK results can be found here.

The championship was also open to international participation, with a total of 18 participants successfully finishing the set of 16 puzzles. Jan Mrozowski of Poland narrowly emerged as the fastest solver of a highly competitive field. Congratulations Jan!

1. Jan Mrozowski (POL) - 1025 pts
2. Jakub Ondroušek (CZE) - 1019 pts
3. Tantan Dai (CHN) - 1008 pts

The full international results can be found here.

Congratulations Sam (and Heather)!

Very pleased to have made the UK top 3, though annoyed I couldn't quite get the Diagonal out in the final 22 minutes.

Thanks Tom (and others involved) for a fun set of puzzles!

On the subject of the diagonal, Simon Anthony has posted a great walkthrough of his solve on youtube. It was not an easy puzzle, but I hope this demonstrates that it was a fair puzzle!
