Re: UK Open Puzzle & Sudoku Tournaments
We still have spaces available if anyone is interested in joining us. You can take part in either the Sudoku or Puzzle Tournaments or both
Re: UK Open Puzzle & Sudoku Tournaments
Instruction booklets for the Sudoku Tournament are now available. The Puzzle Tournament booklets will be posted later today.
Please note that you may find issues with the printed version with grey scale on a couple of puzzles. Some testers found that the grey didn't print at all, whilst others found it too dark. The grey in the competition booklets has been optimised for the printer that they are being published from.
We can still offer places to take part if anyone else wishes to join us.
Please note: There has been a change to the instruction booklet for round 2 Q5 to correct an error.

Re: UK Open Puzzle & Sudoku Tournaments
Apologies for not posting these as promised yesterday. Time got the better of me.
There's just one round to come. Hopefully I'll be able to get that up later today.
Also attached is the schedule for the weekend.
Please note: The instruction booklet for round four is in a lower post.

Re: UK Open Puzzle & Sudoku Tournaments
Hi. Thanks for these. Look forward to seeing you all soon.
Sudoku R2 Q5. Is the additional "non-consecutive" condition a copy-and-paste typo ? The example puzzle doesn't seem to conform. Should it say something else (about the pencil marks) instead ?
Sudoku R4 Q9, will the numbers between the slalom poles necessarily be ascending as well as consecutive, or is that just coincidental in the example ?
Thanks,
David

Re: UK Open Puzzle & Sudoku Tournaments
Yes R2Q5 was a copy/paste typo - I've amended and uploaded the correct instruction.DavidC wrote:Hi. Thanks for these. Look forward to seeing you all soon.

R4Q9 - they will not necessarily be ascending, it is just coincidental in the example.

Two questions on Round 2 of the puzzle comp.
In Filled Loop :
a) do the pentominos need to be marked or is the loop enough?
b) does a single edge mean a single square?
Or are we leaving qns until we're on site?

a) - It will be enough to mark the loop.drsteve wrote:Two questions on Round 2 of the puzzle comp.

b) - It is a single edge of a single cell so you can't have a piece wrapping round another in any way.
Any other questions welcome here beforehand.
Re: UK Open Puzzle & Sudoku Tournaments
So just to confirm, you can't have, say, the I and the L touching along a long side, e.g.puzzlemad wrote:

if you follow my artistic efforts. It's a single edge but not a single cell, so not allowed.
Re: UK Open Puzzle & Sudoku Tournaments
Correct - that would not be allowed.drsteve wrote:So just to confirm, you can't have, say, the I and the L touching along a long side, e.g.puzzlemad wrote:

Re: UK Open Puzzle & Sudoku Tournaments
For those staying over on Friday night - evening meal is included. I suggest that we meet up at 7.30pm in the bar for 8pm meal. If you arrive later it won't be a problem you can join us or eat later.
Re: UK Open Puzzle & Sudoku Tournaments
See you tomorrow morning, folks. Puzzle Round 2 puzzle 8 (Sukoro): Can someone explain to me why the bottom row couldn't begin 12... and the row above it 24... ?

Re: UK Open Puzzle & Sudoku Tournaments
Mark,
Because the 1 in the bottom row would then actually have 2 orthogonal neighbours. It's puzzle round 3 by the way in case others are wondering.

Re: UK Open Puzzle & Sudoku Tournaments
Doh! Thank you. I can see I'm taking some real form into the weekend ...
Re: UK Open Puzzle & Sudoku Tournaments
Clearly in the end I forgot my booklets somewhere around the refreshment room, so I would be grateful if someone could send me pdfs.
I would like to send a big hug and a huge thank you to everybody for the help during the day. Wonderful organisers and competitors! Everything is ok now

Re: UK Open Puzzle & Sudoku Tournaments
Yes, we're all very pleased to hear everything is OK
Big thanks to Liane for organising everything, and congratulations to Neil for winning the puzzle competition with his usual level of comfort! I do have a question - will the PDF's be made available online?
