Re: LMI - Puzzle Ramayan & IPC Qualifiers : September - Marc
A good showing from the Brits! We were only outnumbered by India, USA and Japan. (Results)
Well done to James, Neil and David on finishing in the top 20, with Tom just behind... Couldn't have picked a better WPC team!
A very good showing from Steve, Emma, Saul (Glasman) and Mark.
Then a very tight pack of Eva, Paul, Adam and myself separated by 0.5 points, with Heather, Liane & Mark right behind us.
Then Anthea.
All good
[edit: How did Hideaki do the whole lot in 40 minutes?!]

First thing to say is what a phenomenal effort by Hideaki.
Yes. Great showing by the UK. The theme was likely to suit the Sudoku specialists. I spent ages on the ABC skyscrapers. Loved the Kakuro, especially the Kropkuro.
A good warm-up. Now, what's going to appear in that instruction booklet?

Yeah, I was the other way around. Found the ABC skyscrapers fairly quick.david mcneill wrote: I spent ages on the ABC skyscrapers. Loved the Kakuro, especially the Kropkuro.
Of course it turns out the fastest way to solve it is to just open up the last page of the instruction book, but that was too unexpected for me!

A bit of an odd mix, but a fun test nevertheless!
Re: LMI - Puzzle Ramayan & IPC Qualifiers : September - Marc
Loved that round - nearly got the hard magnets but found the Hashi near inpenetrable for some reason.
Re: LMI - Puzzle Ramayan & IPC Qualifiers : September - Marc
I've got one puzzle left unsolved at the moment - the third arrows - no idea how to start that one!
Re: LMI - Puzzle Ramayan & IPC Qualifiers : September - Marc
Liane:
PRIME_BBCODE_SPOILER_SHOW PRIME_BBCODE_SPOILER:
The middle cell can only be pointed at by 4 possible arrows - middle row and middle column. The logic is then a little bit involved by considering which of the 2s are pointed at, but generally the puzzle flows quite nicely from that initial break in

Apparently the deadline has been extended by 24 hours.

That'll give Neil and Tom (and Liane) a chance to beat me

James is top Brit again...
Stellar performance from 'masonjason' (Saul Glasman(?)) too!
At the half-way mark, I was convinced I was going to finish this...
In the end, I couldn't get the larger of the 4 galaxies out. Aborted, and went on to do the 4/5 galaxies (nice!) and the lower point ones
Should have kept going with the last area division - finished it 2 minutes after the deadline. That would have put me a very satisfying 4th in the UK ranks.
Good fun...

I'd forgotten all about this one. Been up to my eyes with work. Will give it a go later.PuzzleScot wrote:Apparently the deadline has been extended by 24 hours.

I completed my last one about half a minute after time was up. Wish I'd done it in the same room as the printer- it might have made all the difference.

Ooh well done AJ, top UK entrant for the Snakes round.
I was happy with how I went, not naturally fond of Snakes but I'm getting better at mixing logic and guessing while doing them.
You may have noticed I'm labelled as New Zealand on LMI currently, I'm trying to encourage some others in my office to take up the hobby but with small success.
So for the moment it will be easier to top the UK standings!
Now to do some Tapas...

I did wonder. Good luck with encouraging them to take part.kiwijam wrote:You may have noticed I'm labelled as New Zealand on LMI currently, I'm trying to encourage some others in my office to take up the hobby but with small success.

Re: LMI - Puzzle Ramayan & IPC Qualifiers : September - Marc
Just to add to what Alan and Prasanna said above, if you post on the LMI contest-specific forum then your post will show up immediately for people who have already entered the competition, but won't show up for anyone else until the competition is over. But apart from on that special LMI forum, since people are competing for places then people avoid any public discussion until the competition is closed. The reason is that it might give an advantage (or disadvantage, if misleading!) to those who are yet to take part.
