European Sudoku Championship - May 2026

I can't seem to find an official website, and information isn't quite finalised, but thought I'd start a thread to try and gather potential UK interest in participating. If you've come to this thread via the mailing list, please reply here. I can't remember if we ironed out all the niggles for registration, but if you are struggling to register please email chairman@ukpuzzles.org

If it helps with decision-making, according to the WPF Discord channel it also looks like the yearly 24-hour contest will follow on the weekend after the sudoku competition, either 10-11th or 11-12th May ("close to Bratislava, in Győr, Hungary").

There is also the possibility of combining the Sudoku competition with the 24 Hours Puzzle Championship in nearby Györ, which is something that anyone can apply to - it isn't something that goes via the UKPA. Here are the results. The team did us proud. I can see that B teams were official for this contest, but besides that, the team have finished only behind Czechia and Türkiye, which feels like a great result to me.

Thanks all - yeah was a fun trip, should probably do a write up at some point.

Individually, Freddie caused a few eyebrows to raise after he was top of the leaderboard after round 1 - but yeah the final podium was very strong. Definitely an interesting perspective when we've had the likes of Jan V, Jan Z and Vincent at the open in recent years - if we can catch up to that level of performance from a UK perspective that's definitely a very strong showing. (And Freddie is definitely getting there...)

We were all pleased with the team rounds - the first we were very close to getting out completely (probably needed another 2-3 mins) and that'd have been worth several hundred points extra, probably enough to guarantee the 3rd spot ahead of Turkiye. As it is was, we were very good on the second round (finishing 1st in the room) but unfortunately a little bit slower with the other two rounds. Still, no (unknown!) mistakes is always good in these things.
