WIN 6000 USD IN BEIJING INTERNATIONAL SUDOKU TOURNAMENT 2012!!!

The Organising Committee of 2012 Beijing International Sudoku Tournament (BIST’12) would like to invite players from all over the world to get together for our second Sudoku event which take place between 17 and 21 May.

The style this tournament is the same as the WSC and the types of puzzles is almost the same as those used in our tournament last year. Prizes will be awarded to the final top ten players. The Champion can win up to 6,000 US dollars. The top three players under the age of 18 and top three over the age of 40 can win prizes, too.

On the 19 May, all the international participants will visit the ancient royal palace – the Forbidden City and tour the old folk residential quarters – known as Huton. But for those who never been to the great wall, we also organise the Great Wall visit for them on the same day. Players have to choose one of them.

The five-star hotel is NanGong Spring Holiday Resort.

For more information, please visit our official website: http://bist2012.sudoku.org.cn/

[edit: This event is being organised by the Beijing Media Network, China's representative of the World Puzzle Federation.

It sounds fascinating - coincidentally I came across George's flyer from Eger a few days ago. It would be interesting to hear from Tom and Mike about their experiences last year, and whether they feel it is worth, say, someone of my level going in for it.

It's an event comparable to a WSC, wonderfully organised and obviously an eye opening experience being in China. There are some age related prize sub-divisions, but if you aren't a WSC contender I wouldn't go with the expectation of winning prizes, the competition is pretty hot these days. I went along last year thinking this would be a one-off chance to go to China but having gone then I can't really justify going along this year, as much as I'd like to go. If nothing else the hotel looks more comfortable than the rather staid surroundings we had in our government-approved place last year (it didn't have a bar!).

I'd say that if you've never been to China it's worth going (as long as you enjoy sudoku competitions!) but having to make a choice my personal preference is to go with the world championships.
