Re: Prime Exotica
The test has started and there have already been some spectacular UK performances. Do try to participate, if you can manage to take out 101 minutes off your time.
Re: Prime Exotica
So that's code for David running rampage again presumably. I'll give this a shot when I get back from the shops.

There was an outage at LMI, but the site is now back up and running. The test timing will be extended by 24 hours.

Re: Prime Exotica
Damn - I had 36 seconds left to type a solution code in and wasn't quick enough to do it!
Lovely test though, thank you!

Re: Prime Exotica
I had a similar thing having just under 3 minutes to get the rossini out. I can't have failed to get the code in by more than 15 seconds

Re: Prime Exotica
Interesting, although the point allocation seemed a bit off to me in places. No spoilers yet, as the comp is still open until midnight Monday.
I did enjoy that, despite it being sudoku...

How correct!detuned wrote:So that's code for David running rampage again presumably. I'll give this a shot when I get back from the shops.
David had a very impressive performance, and he stands 2nd.
Thank you all for participating.
Re: Prime Exotica
Wow, top stuff David. And not bad at all Steve either! Once again, thanks to all those involved with organisation. Maybe the week after next Deb I can finally make a start on my idea for a test too

Re: Prime Exotica
Thing is, this competition benefited in a couple of rounds if you did some preparation, a la world championships. Multitab is very quick if you've prepared a list of possible sums. I'd have hated to have tried that from scratch. Ditto Prime was similar, as was Kombinance.detuned wrote:Wow, top stuff David. And not bad at all Steve either! I'm sure that my score benefited from doing that preparation.

Re: Prime Exotica
Absolutely right. So, in effect, there were (hidden) points for preparation too !! Kombinance solves much faster if you know that there are exactly nine four-number combinations to make 17. Prime number was not too dependent on a list (at least, the intention was not that), but it is possible that having a list would have helped. Multitab, of course, was a little difficult without some sort of preparation.drsteve wrote:Thing is, this competition benefited in a couple of rounds if you did some preparation, a la world championships. Re: Prime Exotica
I had the 9 sets of 17's for kombinance, but didn't think to do it for multitab. Having said that I really enjoyed the logic involved in unravelling that puzzle.
I think another thing that got me was not being to add up for the numerology one. Must have wasted a good 10 minutes there...typical mathematician eh
