Sudoku Mahabharat 2020

Post by Feadoor » Fri 10 Jan, 2020 12:13 pm

The first contest has just started today and will be open until the 14th: http://logicmastersindia.com/SM/202001/. I for one am interested to try these brutal 6x6 classics that are worth 2 points instead of the usual 1 :D

Edit: it's become apparent there are individuals within LMI who seem to have it in for me. Whilst this remains the case I'm not going to comment on anything to do with LMI.

The first round ended today. Top 3 from the UK all finished the test with plenty of time to spare:

29. Tom Collyer - 133.2 (56:47)
41. Sam Cappleman-Lynes - 125.5 (64:28)
42. Mark Goodliffe - 125.3 (64:43)

Notable others include the now-disqualified Rajnesh Kumari who apparently solved all 18 puzzles in 13:37  The true first place passes to Jakub Ondrousek with a blistering time of 32:38!

Round 2 has just happened - forgot to post a reminder...

Top 3 from the UK are:

24. Sam Cappleman-Lynes - 91
33. Tom Collyer - 85.6
101. Matthew White - 55

Slightly disappointed, personally, not to have finished the set. I broke the True or Lie twice, which was the only puzzle I didn't end up completing. I also broke the same puzzle twice on the equivalent round last year... maybe I should practice the type a bit more

The global first place goes, again, to Jakub Ondrousek, finishing in 61:35.

Round 3 is active right now - it runs until Wednesday so you have several days remaining if you want to take part.

Round 4 results - two UK finishers:

37. Tom Collyer - 102.2 (87:46)
40. Sam Cappleman-Lynes - 100.7 (89:16)
51. Freddie Hand - 88.6

Have you been practising your Sudoku, Freddie?

The 9x9 Little Killer was obviously the big story of this test. It took me over 30 minutes to solve

I have been doing a bit more Sudoku practice with all this excess time from self-isolation. I thought I was going to finish the test but the large division Sudoku denied me: I broke it first time round and had 10 minutes after finishing the little killer to complete it, but then failed to do so.

Classics are still a severe weakness, but apparently you don't have to be good at classic Sudoku to be the world Sudoku champion!
