First version of the instructions have now been posted. Note that the points distribution has not been finalised - this is likely to happen by Monday.

Anyone can enter - the two qualification events are separate. People can qualify by either route - otherwise it's a bit harsh on those who can't make the on-site competition.

Hi,
When printing the instructions, I noticed that if I had colours enabled the shaded markings (such as thermometer) turned out to be in very light pink and were difficult to see. When I chose black-n-white printing, the markings were nicely visible.

The printing thing is weird - I suspect it's because your printer wants to make grey as a mixture of colours (which is my mistake) and is maybe running low on one of them?

It is probably the printer. I've had the same experience before, printing pink usually means you have to refill cyan ink.

The points distribution has now been updated within the instruction booklet, which you can find here:

A quick addendum to the instructions:

As per previous years, a partial bonus of 2 points per minute saved will be applied to any solver with 15/16 correct solutions. Solvers who correctly submit 16/16 will still receive 6 points per minute.

Yes, you are most probably right about the ink.
Just wanted to give a hint/reminder about the black-n-white printing to others, too :-)

Noticed that the "Time until contest starts" is different in
http://www.ukpuzzles.org/contests.php?contestid=39 than in
http://www.ukpuzzles.org/answers.php?contestid=39

I believe the latter is the correct one, or?

I don't see a difference in the two links - but in any case you start the contest from the 2nd link so that's the one to pay attention to!

The times are local times UK. The "GMT" reference on answers.php should in fact say "BST (GMT+1)" - I will try to fix that (without breaking anything) before the deadline - It's only a wording issue - times are definitely LOCAL UK TIME.

I think I figured out what happened. First, I opened the contest page and after awhile set my computer to sleep. Roughly an hour later, I opened the answer page to a new tab. At that point, I started wondering that which counter is correct as there was an hour difference. So I think that the timer paused while the computer was sleeping and as I didn't refresh the contest page, it continued from where it was left :D
