[SOTR] Nikoli Hurdles 3
[SOTR] Nikoli Hurdles 3
Hello UKPA,
The third edition of Nikoli Hurdles started a few days ago.
Same format as previous ones with 8 puzzles to be solved chronologically.
One winner will receive the recently-published Nikoli Penpa 2016 as an early Christmas present.
There's over 2 weeks left in this contest so if this is something you could find time for, I welcome you there!

Excellent puzzles again from Tawan - highly recommended!
My favourites were 6,7,5 in that order, so well worth plugging away to see those.

Some very nice puzzle as usual from Tawan. Thanks for your efforts.
Good to see some of the less common Nikoli types, with perhaps the exception of the final puzzle where I will be happy to not see its like again.

Hey, if it's good enough for the WPC play-off Puzzle GP Final...furudo.erika wrote:with perhaps the exception of the final puzzle where I will be happy to not see its like again.
Seriously though - I'm with you. That type of puzzle should be left in kids' puzzle magazines.
Re: [SOTR] Nikoli Hurdles 3
I quite enjoyed the last puzzle actually - my method got to an answer reasonably quickly (once I realised I need to scroll down and see 3 missing rows!).
Having listened to James describe his solving method for the GP final, I have no problem describing these as a logic puzzle.

Do share these methods... I just used a brute-force table - it got there, but it was very tedious.
Re: [SOTR] Nikoli Hurdles 3
Thank you for the feedback guys.
My inbox is flooded with "what were you thinking!?" regarding the controversial decision to include puzzle 8 in the set.
I was inspired by the early issues of Nikoli Puzzle the Giants where that said puzzle appeared in its most monstrous form.
Something like 15x10 (perhaps even bigger)
Also, I've decided to extend the deadline by 2 more days, so if you're interested - you have 7 days left to solve 8 puzzles (veterans could easily go through in a day).
Thank you to those who've already submitted, its nice to see UKPA names in the entrants' list.

I'll post my thoughts once the competition is over!emma wrote:Do share these methods... I just used a brute-force table - it got there, but it was very tedious.
