Hats off to anyone who got the large Repeating Neighbours puzzle done in Round 2 while competing - I think it's taken me 2 or 3 hours all told after the competition to prove a solution!

Have you seen the walkthrough posted on the discussion thread for the contest? I hope that makes the variant easier to solve in the future. Thanks, Prasanna,
In fact I got all the steps mentioned in the walkthrough - in the end. It's just that proving the theoretical equality of such cells took me quite some time; and then having finally proved (I thought) all of those equivalences, I still struggled to complete the puzzle, and managed to break it - twice, in the same way. So I happily acknowledge that it's all my own dimness and error - but I stll found it a very hard puzzle indeed. Very impressive though.

Looking at the results list, I'm feeling quite pleased to have finished this one!
Re: LMI - Sudoku Mahabharat & ISC Qualifiers
I felt there were one or two tough ones there, even for medium points. Well done though, Tom - irritated as I am by the oddity that you were the only person to knock me down a place in the last 24 hours of the competition...

Re: LMI - Sudoku Mahabharat & ISC Qualifiers
Congratulations to my three UK team colleagues on beating me soundly in the Maths Variations contest. I hated the two hard puzzles - the large Group Sums and Repeating Neighbours. I could not find a logical solution to either and spent 60 minutes on them. The Group Sums had nice logic until about 60% of the way through. I couldn't find any logic in the other one. Of course, I should have guessed, but it was only supposed to be a friendly contest, wasn't it? The grapes are sour today.
Re: LMI - Sudoku Mahabharat & ISC Qualifiers
David, I'm not fit to clean your virtual boots let alone disagree with you. However: the big Group Sums certainly can solve by logic all the way through - I acknowledge that at about the 60% point, it might be quicker to bifurcate to the solution; Repeating Neighbours was from an earlier contest - you may mean Equal Product; and I really take issue with the idea that 'guessing' is cheating or ungentlemanly, however friendly the contest. I know your comment was tongue-in-cheek, of course, and honestly I can't remember if I guessed on any of these puzzles, but I certainly don't steel myself to avoid it; nor do I think I should.
Re: LMI - Sudoku Mahabharat & ISC Qualifiers
Well done to Tom and especially David on the Outside round. I have to say that I detest (i.e. am appalling at) all types of Skyscrapers puzzles, and rather than spending 20+ minutes making progress and eventually reaching a contradiction in the big one, I would have done better to clean up all the small puzzles and spot that I had entered the wrong row as my solution on a 3-point puzzle.
