1. Croco-Rätselwettbewerb (17-18 Mar 2012)

Postby berni » Thu 23 Feb, 2012 1:37 pm

At march 17th/18th the 1. Croco-Rätselwettbewerb (=1st croco puzzle contest) will be held. The contest is already online. The english translation of the instructions-/contestfile is very brief, only the most important stuff is translated, but I think most of you are familar with the puzzletypes allready. (If you do the CrocoPuzzle Ü-Rätsel regularly you'll know them all.) If there are any questions left, please feel free to ask them here.

There has been a mistake in the contest file: It was not printable on certain computers. Please download the contest file once again to avoid problems!

Nice puzzles, and the weirdest printer problem I've ever had to contend with - every single character in the puzzle graphics looked fine on screen, but printed out shifted up one ASCII code! A's came out as B, 45 came out as 56, ? came out as @... absolutely wrecked me for solving at my best, but I actually enjoyed the sheer mind-bendingness of it! I'll be seeing a 4 and saying a 3 for days now...

In the german forum someone complained about this too. We had this error some years ago, but never found out, why it happend. It normaly does not repeat. If you print out a second time, it's quite probably fine... This morning I investigated a little about this problem. I haven't found a solution, but it might disapper, when I embed the fonts used in the graphics. I'll do this next time and hope that this works better...

I'd been out all day, rushed to get my daughter's music practice done with here - exam coming up!, then started just after 10pm, forgetting that it would be on German time - about another 200 points if I'd started earlier enough. Ah well - should have tried the Tapa instead - can't do that tonight.

Finally got around to trying this, and scored an unofficial 151. (I do like the way LMD leave the contests available and have late entrants' scoring on an unofficial chart.) Would have been a 160 if I hadn't changed a timely wrong answer for a late wrong answer :)
