Puzzler call it 'Kriss Kross', but I know these as 'Word Fit' puzzles. (Just my opinion)

Fit Word is common too. And kriss-kross is usually spelled Criss-cross if you're not Puzzler.

I've tried some internet searches with the names you gave. "word fit" seems to be the most common. Wikipedia forwards kriss-kross to "fill in" or "word fills" - might be more common in USA than in UK? Anyway, thank you, for your quick responses!

Interestingly, I see that Puzzler use the term 'fitword' when they place the puzzles on a crossword grid, and 'kriss-kross' when they are free-form:

Not sure anyone else makes that distinction, though!
