Re: UK Open Puzzle Championship Instruction Book

Often instruction books are full of small and trivial cases, but in this case there are good quality puzzles being used as examples. Which bodes well for the tournament! I particularly enjoyed Star Battle, Hashi, and Paint By 3. Perhaps they were real puzzles that didn't make the final cut? Anyway,...

Just to clarify, you're referring to the puzzle competition, not the sudoku one. Well spotted - I've updated that graphic in the PDF now.

An update to the above: The top-ranked UK participant at the on-site puzzle event in Manchester will be awarded a place in the WPC 2012 UK team. Similarly the top-ranked UK participant in the on-site sudoku event will be awarded a place in the WSC 2012 UK team.

Re: UK Open Sudoku and Puzzle Tournament 28-29 April 2012

For those visiting from other sites or from advertising posters, in the message above "WPC" refers to the World Puzzle Championship, an event held annually for the past 20 years; "WSC" refers to the World Sudoku Championship, a similar event that has been held for the past several years. Each of the...

Re: WPC/WSC preparation

Although you only get one copy you are usually allowed to use additional paper (e.g. graph paper) to work on if you prefer, although answers have to be submitted on the original. I'm not entirely sure about what you're allowed to premark on your additional paper (e.g. empty sudoku grids ready to fil...

Yes, see his other posts (click his name and then search posts by him) - he's consistently reposting puzzles from some place else. So the top one claritymedia posted is almost certainly correct.

I too printed the puzzles off after the event. Despite having more than one pencil, I struggled. I found the Fortress and Heyawacky puzzles particularly difficult and finished the set in 76 minutes (including writing out the answer keys). Thanks to Bastien for providing a fun challenge and well don...

Re: LMI July Puzzle Contest (30-31 July 2011)

I'm glad it's not just me! The ones you mention seem ridiculously hard, and since the instruction booklet says they are typical of the standard in the competition itself and of the forthcoming WPC I didn't find that very reassuring. If this will truly be the standard of puzzles at the WPC this year ...
