Re: 2010 US Puzzle Championships

180, but I had to have a "guess" at the pentagons to get that

Not particularly convinced some of my other answers are correct, but really can't be bothered to check my answers at the moment.

Re: 2010 US Puzzle Championships

Sudoku - probably very hard. Well I hope not - they have been pretty easy in the past, except for last years, in my opinion. A hard Sudoku gives too much of a time advantage to the Tom Snyder's of this world - really seems a bit pointless given this is the trial for the WPC which has been very ligh...

Re: 2010 US Puzzle Championships

There's a spot the diff of sorts, I think - isn't that essentially what puzzle 5 is? They had one like this a long time ago I believe. Ususally they have a spot the diff and a find the pairs. And aren't 4 and 7 and 12 word puzzles? 12 is a word search it seems? Usually there's a word search. These ...

Re: 2010 US Puzzle Championships

OK, me again

This seems very interesting - they've cut out almost all of the traditional easy puzzles (Spot the Diff, Word Search) and there are very few standards. This looks like it's going to be fun.

Shame they kept the sudoku in though...

Before I put time aside to attempt it, is the practise test just a compilation from old tests? Your comment about the excrutiating Di-Agony would seem to imply that it is...

Re: Sudoku Xtra magazine

Just wanted to say that I'd been putting off buying this due to my mild aversion to Sudoku, but got the latest issue.

It's absolutely fantastic, a real variety of challenging puzzles and I'd highly recommend it to all puzzlers, not just Sudoku experts.

Re: LMI August Sudoku Contest

I think you can measure your success by the comments from our resident sudoku sceptics! Speaking a sceptic, this was one of the most entertaining competitions that I've done. Obviously the uber-solvers rattled through it, but for a general puzzler, rather than a sudoku specialist, I found this a ve...

Re: Numberlink and Uniqueness

Has anyone encountered a puzzle numberlink that does not use all the squares? I always assume this will be the case and haven't been caught out yet, but it would seem to be an obvious way to trip up solvers.

Re: LMI August Sudoku Contest

You did get 270 Alan. Log in again to the competition page and click on Results. It actually gave you your own result immediately but now has everyones. Oh, and I filled in the entire grids as well. But I'm a fast typer and didn't waste enough time to enable me to tackle stage 5. Interesting that it...

Re: LMI August Sudoku Contest

Well, I thought that was a reasonable score for me, but not so sure now, looking at the overall results. Got bogged down on Round 1 grid 4 and especially Round 4 grid 3, which required at least three attempts. Still not sure what went wrong with that one. Still, for whatever reason, I'm never going ...

It's being held at Logicmasters Germany - http://www.logic-masters.de - you do need to register. Once you do, this is the direct link to the competition - http://www.logic-masters.de/Meisterschaften/liste.php - it's the top one. Looks more my cup of tea that the rather mental looking Sudoku one on t...

I guess we got the same score then - got bogged down on two individual grids and had no significant time for round 5.

Re: LMI July Puzzle Contest

Aargh!!! 950, dropped 50 for a careless mistake in the big battleships. Should have checked it more carefully, really need to work on that. Without that, my time (79 mins, ignoring any time that I would have spent typing in answers) would have put me in the top ten. Really wish I'd done it properly ...
