Re: Logicmasters 2017 Qualifcation

Yes, the rule for the line drawing caught me out - solved one puzzle but then couldn't decipher the rules until much later. Luckily twigged it before the time was up...

And I don't think the additional Pentomino rule is necessary, as I solved it without being aware of that.

Logicmasters 2017 Qualifcation

Just to point out that this has started and runs until Monday 23rd. The instructions are in German but most of the puzzles are obvious (although I can't seem to copy the text into Google Translate). For any non-standard ones, I THINK: 2. Blackout Domino - the blacked out squares have to be isolated ...

Re: UK Sudoku Championship 2016 / WSC Qualification

Anyone can enter - the two qualification events are separate. People can qualify by either route - otherwise it's a bit harsh on those who can't make the on-site competition.

@ukpuzzles Twitter Account

Just to let people know that I'm going to be maintaining the UKPA twitter account, @ukpuzzles If you follow it, then you'll get reminders of upcoming and current puzzle competitions, announcements of UK puzzling interest and a modicum of additional puzzle tweets. Don't worry if you think you'll get ...

Re: UK Open Puzzle & Sudoku Tournaments

a) - It will be enough to mark the loop. b) - It is a single edge of a single cell so you can't have a piece wrapping round another in any way. Any other questions welcome here beforehand. So just to confirm, you can't have, say, the I and the L touching along a long side, e.g. I I I I I LLLL L if ...

Re: WPF Puzzle GP 2016

I really enjoyed the casual section - and none of the puzzles therein would be out of place in a WPC. Which again raises the question, why have such a divide? I'd much prefer the variety of that section to the Kropki-and-snake-athon (probably my least favourite puzzles...)

Re: UK Open Puzzle & Sudoku Tournaments

Two questions on Round 2 of the puzzle comp.

In Filled Loop :

a) do the pentominos need to be marked or is the loop enough?

b) does a single edge mean a single square?

Or are we leaving qns until we're on site?

Re: WPF Puzzle GP 2016

To add my opinion to the Kropki-athon, I don't really see the divide between competition and non-competition puzzles here - all of the first half have been WPC puzzles in the past apart from Old Maid and some look more interesting than the competitive ones which are same old, same old. I still fail ...

Re: croco-puzzle

I thought the Masyu app was a bit odd - kept putting crosses on the grid if the mouse twitched the wrong way. All the rest seem to be working fine, with some interesting puzzles too.

Re: WPF Puzzle GP 2016

Did the best I could with a stinking head cold but that performance wasn't going to set the world on fire. And I really didn't like the Comp/Non-comp divide. The point balance on the two sets of puzzles didn't seem desperately equitable - 16 pt for sequence 2 vs Four winds 3 but there is a gulf of d...

Loved that round - nearly got the hard magnets but found the Hashi near inpenetrable for some reason.

Re: 2015 Puzzle GP

While we wait for the results to round 8, did anyone else find the points allocation a bit... strange. The two Kakuro's weren't that bad, imho, and I'm no Kakuro expert. Maybe with more experience of the puzzle I'd have knocked off the Japanese Arrows with less difficulty but as it was, I didn't rea...

Quite pleased with that one given that it contained a whole bunch of my less favourite puzzles. Curious though - did anyone else find the opening Japanese Sums harder than the closing ones?

Well done again to James on another top 10 finish.
Curious what happened to Neil though - much as I'd like to think that I beat him fair and square, I presume that his computer exploded or something

A question concerning the Chess Pieces round

In the puzzle "King Me", do all of the words have to be located AND the missing one identified or does one need to only identify the missing one? Just a little wary of 20% of the points potentially being available for a guess...
