You won't need a laptop - it just means that puzzles will be on the projection screen.

Sunday Express today (16th March)
There is a huge 8 page pull-out of my puzzles in the Sunday Express today, which features lots of different types of content - not just logic puzzles like star battle, but word and other puzzles too. If you go near a newsagent, take a look! :) (or read it free on the iPad app if you haven't previous...

I think it's fair to say that the hints should be sufficient for anyone!
I'll be there at 7pm tomorrow.

Ah, yes, thank you - I was counting that shaded square itself as part of the count! Duh.sknight wrote:Remember, shaded in clues must be FALSE, and if you cut out the bend at top left, the 2 at the bottom becomes true.

Re: UKPA Puzzle Championship 2013
Just had a look at this. The true/false snake example has an alternative solution which dispenses with the bend at the top-left, unless I'm missing a rule?

I guess they didn't send any emails out for this either. Shame, because if I'd known about it just a day earlier I could have arranged things so as to have taken apart.

Re: UK Open Sudoku and Puzzle Tournament 16th - 17th March,
We did it last year and it doesn't seem to have encouraged additional people to sign up this year, so apparently not... I think Liane's compiled a wide selection of puzzles from many top authors so anyone who doesn't come is genuinely going to miss out. If you're in the UK (or can get here easily, e...

Re: Puzzle book for 9/10 year old?
I have two suggestions. If they're new to doing logic puzzles and so on then I'd recommend starting with Kids' 10-minute Brain Workout - http://www.amazon.co.uk/Kids-10-Minute-Brain-Workout-Brain-Training/dp/190515853X . This features very small and easy Masyu, Hashi, Slitherlink and other 'Japanese...

Re: 2012 UK Puzzle Championship (24-27 Aug 2012)
I too spent ages on the Rock-Paper-Scissors puzzle, which looked easy but completely stumped me. On that puzzle, if you start on the bottom-left square (which was also where the example solved from, so a natural place to start, and also by inspection the most constrained part of the puzzle) then th...

Re: 2012 UK Puzzle Championship (24-27 Aug 2012)
I really enjoyed the UKPC - overall I personally thought it was better than the USPC, and a really solid test. Thanks to Alan and all of the authors and testers. I particularly enjoyed the Tilt Maze (definitely my favourite puzzle), and I thought the Crypted Fence and Heyajilin were particularly cle...

Re: 2012 US Puzzle Championship (USPC)
Just had a look at the solutions and saw how many I got wrong, including just a tiny corner of the fences variation and even one of the spot the differences (didn't mirror the hippo's foot correctly so entered wrong cell). Might end up with less than 100. Oops. Mistakes with the rules too, such as I...

Re: 2012 US Puzzle Championship (USPC)
For once - not a "mitigated disaster" - just one answer key put in back to front - fingers crossed there. If OK, then 195. I've seen it suggested that one Roger Barkan, who has finished third at three WPCs, got a provisional 194 this year, so 195 is spectacular! The pre-appeals top US results that ...

Yes, discussion now is absolutely fine! :) Congratulations to the winners, and I have to say I'm so impressed with the standard of solving - in particular for the 6/7 who finished all of the puzzles I think that's a phenomenal achievement! Thanks again also to Thomas Snyder for testing all of the pu...

Re: 2012 UK Puzzle Championship
Great range of puzzles! Are there extra constraints not listed or is LURUDLU an alternative solution to example 5? This path is shorter than the example but has an equal number of tilts so I think it is equally correct? Or does the constraint-based nature mean there will be no unique solution to thi...

Stefano, sounds like your printer didn't handle the instruction to draw dashed lines. If you have trouble with the competition file then try right-clicking the download link and saving and then manually opening in Adobe Reader. You can also always (on Windows) zoom the puzzle you want in the documen...
