Re: DASH6 Puzzle Hunt: April 26th

DASH 5 last year was brilliant; one of the highlights of my year, not just my puzzling year. Obviously things could be different from year to year, but I would give this a very high recommendation. I wrote up my experience of the day, and teammate Iain wrote a two-part pictorial report here and here...

2014 WPF Puzzle Grand Prix

The WPF are holding a puzzle Grand Prix with some degree of similarity to the sudoku one. The six rounds take place at weekends, with each fortnight alternating between a puzzle GP and a sudoku GP. The first puzzle round, constructed by Germany, takes place this weekend; the window to complete the 9...

Re: croco-puzzle

My analysis wild-butted guess is that the decisive factor is not so much the move from two puzles to one as the extension of having puzzles available for a day to having them availabe for a week. The hardcore solvers will still solve each new puzzle each day, as they ever did. However, the less comm...

I managed to win my first daily puzzle earlier in the month Here's to many more! You are already knocking on the door of Croco's top hundred. While we're talking Croco, congratulations for some recent UK promotions to PuzzleScot (5th kyu, but absolutely searing up the ratings over the last three mo...

Re: croco-puzzle

I think it's worth celebrating James' victory in the Tapa variants series recently. We've had UK team members win individual puzzles in the past, but to take 264 names, including some very serious ones, by demonstrating exceptional consistency over the course of a six-puzzle series is well worth con...

Re: Puzzled Pint in London

The next event will be coming up on Tuesday 14th January and the theme will be Transportation. As usual, a location puzzle will be published at puzzledpint.com at 6pm on Monday; solving it will tell you which London pub you should go to for the event. Hints are available online or by telephone if yo...

Re: Puzzled Pint in London

Whether there are enough UKPA people interested to make a UKPA team or not, tell your friends and bring them along too! There were 24 people forming 5 teams last time; fingers crossed for an even bigger turnout this time. Sadly I won't be at this one either (or January's, but looks good for February...

Re: croco-puzzle

I will say that I'm playing the daily puzzles less frequently than I used to. While I agree that the move to include the U2-style puzzles is a good one and I've thoroughly enjoyed the increased variety, I would tend to believe that the difficulty of the puzzles has increased compared to what it was....

Two of the puzzles within your match both also made it to the watch page, which I like to think of as puzzle "Match of the Day", except that it's no insult to be on last!

Excellent news! Would any of the others at your event finishing at 7:15pm also be interested? Tell your friends!

Sadly I won't be at the first one, but my wife will and lots of other very interesting (and puzzle-y) people besides.

Puzzled Pint in London

Londoners! Take a pub quiz, lose the questions (people look up the answers anyway) and add puzzles: word puzzles, picture puzzles, logic puzzles, codes. You've got Puzzled Pint, more or less. This non-commercial event has been running monthly in Portland for three years, Seattle as well, and now it'...

Re: Two online puzzle hunts coming up in November

All cool!

The more teams we can get together for the UK timezone version of the Ghost Patrol Reconstructed online hunt this Sunday afternoon, the merrier. Please could you point your hunting friends, whether Warwick or Manchester, past, present or future, at the details?

"Ghost Patrol Reconstructed" online puzzle hunt this Sunday

"Ghost Patrol Reconstructed" is an online, short-format, print-and-solve puzzle hunt. People in the US will be playing in the evening on Halloween 2013, but getting up in the middle of the night is not the most convenient for us UK solvers, especially when Friday is a school day; spending a Sunday a...

Re: Two online puzzle hunts coming up in November

Are you (or anyone else) competing? I know at least two teams with (possibly exclusively?) UK members - ManMaths is made up of mathematicians from Manchester, and Riddler on the Roof is a subset of the team I played with at DASH (though I'm not doing much to help the effort out). There may well be ...

Two online puzzle hunts coming up in November

There are two online puzzle hunts coming up in November. These are designed to be solved by teams of people from around the world, so you can take part wherever you are. Particularly if you've liked the thought of taking part in a puzzle hunt but they've always been in the wrong place at the wrong t...

GCHQ's "Can You Find It?" codebreaking contest

This might be near-topic rather than on-topic, but decrypting enciphered text definitely counts as a puzzle, though obviously not a language-free culture-neutral one. GCHQ today launched a new decryption challenge for UK residents aged 18+ starting at https://canyoufindit.co.uk/ and discussed in the...

Compared to 88 and 22 respectively in 2012, and to 125 and 20 respectively in 2011. The biggest and - for me, at least - most fun one yet!

Re: UKPA Puzzle Championship 2013

Thoroughly enjoyed the test! Thank you to the authors and organisers. The UKPC from two years ago stands out in my memory as being spectacular and I reckon this one was at least as much fun for me; I was able to keep making progress through the entire two and a half hours, getting the really enjoyab...
