Re: Any interest in a UK croco-puzzle ladder?

Full time! *blows whistle* The theme of the week on the UK croco-puzzle ladder was, almost certainly, "late comebacks". This was the state of play after three days: | detuned drsteve | PuzzleScot rodders | dickoon puzzlemad | Monday 28th | | | | Tapa | 14:15 04:52 | 08:42 14:26 | 17:40 10:54 | ABC-B...

Re: Any interest in a UK croco-puzzle ladder?

I don't want to do a croco-puzzle ladder videprinter, but I will say that two of this three week's matches have already finished and were both rather closer than last week's matches. The last match is very close; one puzzle remains unsolved by one player, and the result of that puzzle might send the...

Re: Easter Countdown Puzzle Contest (1-24 April)

I'd be very impressed to read a logical solution to today's "Hard" problem. I was able to solve it, but more by intuition than anything else; the thought process was "Hmm, this is nominally a Hard puzzle, as well as supplying a very small number of starting digits. What would be the most surprising ...

Re: croco-puzzle

Anouncement: Tomorrow the "Easter Calender" will start: Like a normal advent calender, every day a new puzzle will pop up (actually three of them, one easy, one medium and one hard) until 24th of April, which is Easter Sunday this year, ending in a little surprise. Hooray! Looking forward to it. I'...

Re: croco-puzzle

Obviously wait til it's finished, but I'd be interested to hear how anyone else solved that Gebietssummen.... With great difficulty, a second attempt from scratch which went a lot more smoothly than the first go round and a stupidy-stupid Fehlversuch right at the end. (Specifics after it has closed...

Re: Any interest in a UK croco-puzzle ladder?

Think it might come down to who gets the luck of the puzzle draw. Certain types favour me, certain types favour you. Fingers crossed... Fully agreed, and I think that that's one of the interesting parts of the design. Part of the decision to play the match over five days is to make class tell; if i...

Re: Any interest in a UK croco-puzzle ladder?

Marvellous, Liane, and timely!

By the flip of a coin to see which spot you fill, the third match this week will be dickoon vs. puzzlemad, with afcwarren getting the bye this week. Warren will face the winner of that tie in the first #2 Contender match next week.

Re: Any interest in a UK croco-puzzle ladder?

tough draw, tough draw :!: Hey, if you want to be World UK Champion, you've got to take on the World UK. :) It could well be a classic, though. The nice thing is that we have the strength in depth, even before considering people who haven't joined the ladder yet, and there are many extremely intere...

Re: Any interest in a UK croco-puzzle ladder?

Week two! Again, there's a slightly different process to normal operation, which will commence in week three. We match up the winners from the previous week against each other and the losers from the previous week against each other. We will continue to use the initial seeding list, though drsteve h...

Re: Sudoku on "Wetten, dass..?", the German version of You B

Because everything old is new again, the BBC have issued a contestant call for a crazy talent Saturday night light entertainment TV show. I don't know if anyone here wants to show off their puzzle ability on the big screen, but if anybody had an inkling to do so (or, perhaps, might be prepared to do...

Re: croco-puzzle

Interesting to see that ronaldx has the distinction of being the first solver to complete the Killer Sudoku this morning, as well as being the first UK solver of our generation (i.e., with respect to paulredman, about whose history we know little or nothing) into the top 100 overall. Hurrah!

Re: Any interest in a UK croco-puzzle ladder?

I think this highlights a slight problem - I can almost always find time for a ten-ish minute puzzle - anything higher though depends on my workload, which is quite high at the moment. It's an entirely fair comment, but it's the same for everyone. I'm not touching the fences puzzle (to be fair, I a...

Re: PuzzleFountain PDF monthly competition - january 2011

This week sees the PDF competition for March. Enjoyable, as ever, though not easy; I think I have solved three puzzles, possibly a fourth and taken some plausible guesses at others. Happily, the ones I solved were not necessarily the ones I thought I woudl be able to solve going in.

Re: Any interest in a UK croco-puzzle ladder?

Okey-doke. We have six players, which is the fewest I could get away with in order for this to run; thank you all very much for taking a step into the unknown. This gives us an initial seeding list as follows: #1 detuned 1627 #2 PuzzleScot 1285 #3 rodders 956 #4 dickoon 778 #5 drsteve 762 #6 afcwarr...

It's on, and I shall make the first draw on Saturday 19th March for matches to be played on Monday 21st March to Friday 25th March. If anyone knows of a reason why they will need one or two byes in that week, speak up nice an...

Any interest in a UK croco-puzzle ladder?

Would there be any interest if I were to run a ladder tournament for UK solvers based on croco-puzzle performance? The concept is that you would solve croco-puzzle's Ue-raetsel puzzles on a daily basis as normal, but I would infer the results of croco-puzzle matches between different solvers based o...

Sudoku on "Wetten, dass..?", the German version of You Bet!

Some of you may have seen this already, but I'm not sure it's well-known among UK audiences. In September 2006, a German memorist on "Wetten, dass..?" memorised five partially-complete Sudoku puzzles and found their matching other halves (i.e., solutions) from a grid of 100 puzzles within four minut...

As there must be 4 stars in the two top rows R3C3-4 must be empty. Thanks, Nils, but this is the bit that I don't get.
