Re: Any interest in a UK croco-puzzle ladder?

Congratulations to Tom (on fire today; the 1800 rating area is looking extremely interesting for British puzzlers, and I think it's only going to become more so over time!) and commiserations to Steve; it doesn't get much closer than that. Fingers firmly crossed for further extremely tight and excit...

Re: Any interest in a UK croco-puzzle ladder?

Out of curiosity, if the Saturday tie-break is drawn, is the next tie-break the sum of the Saturday times or the sum of the whole week's times? Hmm, I can see that it wasn't explicitly written in the rules in the first place. Implicitly, in the same way as the result of a match that ends 6-6 is der...

Re: Reflections on the croco-puzzle ladder?

I'm definitely warming to drsteve's notion - and thank you very much for making it, Steve! - as it would make the relatively rare championship and #1 contender (i.e. 2v3) matches very dramatic and interesting, and I suspect that it may work better than the current system for divisions of fewer than ...

Re: Reflections on the croco-puzzle ladder?

Thanks, Colin! I welcome your comments and have pencilled you in for a US league if there is the interest. Your comments are certainly true, and I've thought about this parity (in the sense of "odd or even", not in the sense of "equal to") aspect myself. As you say, results in the top and bottom mat...

Re: croco-puzzle

Congratulations to afcwarren on achieving 20th kyu! I look forward to Warren and Liane overtaking me before long, but I'm going to try not to make it too easy for them... ;) Now I wonder whether there are other not-yet-belted names who actually represent British players without me being able to reco...

Re: PuzzleFountain PDF monthly competition - january 2011

Note: meanwhile, LMI is doing OCTO(tm) this week. NOT the May(tm) Puzzle Contest(tm). Thankfully(tm). *cough*(tm) I'm curious to know if anyone here tried it and - if so - what they thought of it. I didn't try the LMI contest (printer's still bust) but I did try a few on the OCTI web site. I...

Re: Reflections on the croco-puzzle ladder?

I'm not sure there are enough players for a proper US ladder, but I'd be interested to see some kind of an international one somehow. Perhaps the top solvers from 8 countries (or maybe 5 countries plus the top 3 Germans since they have such a large percentage of players) joining in. Being on top of...

Reflections on the croco-puzzle ladder?

Seeing as we've had most of a week off from the croco-puzzle ladder, I would welcome some reflections on its design from players, non-players and potential players alike. The rules came fairly naturally, but that tends to mean that their relative success or failure is based more on intuition than de...

Re: croco-puzzle

Today's Ue-puzzle 1: I tend to look at the highscore page before I decide whether or not I would enjoy spending my time on either or both of that day's puzzles, and I saw from the high score table that there were a heckuva lot of Fehlversuches on an otherwise swift puzzle. That's a pretty clear sort...

Re: Easter Countdown Puzzle Contest (1-24 April)

No spoilers, but it's worth making it through, and we may have to start discussing what happens afterwards within the spoiler tags. I've made it through only on the light difficulty level, being stuck at the snake on the middle difficulty level (and wayyyyyy behind on the hard difficulty level). Wha...

Re: Any interest in a UK croco-puzzle ladder?

Can I please request a bye day on Friday this week? Granted! Thanks for giving lots of notice. Looking further ahead, I doubt very much that I'll be able to do many puzzles in the 25-29 April week so I would back any motion to suspend the league for a week :D Anybody else? I'll definitely suspend t...

Re: Easter Countdown Puzzle Contest (1-24 April)

I also don't understand the statistics. The numbers for days 1 and 2 seemed to increase, drop down and then start increasing again. I interpret the numbers as being "the number of people who have solved exactly that many puzzles of that difficulty". Accordingly, if you've solved all four puzzles of...

Re: Any interest in a UK croco-puzzle ladder?

I might struggle to complete the puzzles on Thursday this coming week, unless I can do them on Wednesday night or the wifi on Virgin trains holds on for long enough (unlikely ....). I'll endeavour to do them of course, but just a warning. Not sure how this might affect my match. Do feel free to req...

There is indeed!

Now we are at eight, any further entrants will go on a waiting list - but we should be able to introduce one new player from that waiting list every week.
