Re: 2012 US Puzzle Championship (USPC)

For once - not a "mitigated disaster" - just one answer key put in back to front - fingers crossed there. If OK, then 195. I've seen it suggested that one Roger Barkan, who has finished third at three WPCs, got a provisional 194 this year, so 195 is spectacular! The solutions are now available, and...

Re: 2012 US Puzzle Championship (USPC)

BST (GMT+1) Start/End times in the UK are Sat 25/8/12 18:00 to Sun 26/8/12 20:30 (for completion by 23:00 BST) ...aaaaand breathe. :) Enjoyed the test, as usual! Thanks to the US puzzle structure. I'll be happy if I've exactly matched last year's 93, with the possibility of 103. I spent a long time...

You'll certainly get one more match. If nobody else wants to join, I'll be in next week and you'll be in for the last week; if someone does want to join (unlikely at this point) then I'll drop out and you'll be in again next week.

Re: Puzzles at the Mind Sports Olympiad in London next Frida

Sixteen is probably a pretty good attendance for the MSO these days. It's been at least five years (I lose count...) since I've had anything to do with them behind the scenes, but I'd be prepared to bet small money that they'd be prepared to consider expanding their puzzle contest range in future ye...

Re: Puzzles at the Mind Sports Olympiad in London next Frida

Conveniently, I can post in this thread again. The 16th Mind Sports Olympiad is having another puzzles (sudoku and kenken) contest and once again it is happening on a Friday; Friday 24th August, from 10 a.m. at the University of London Union on Malet Street in London. Entry is ten pounds or nine pou...

Re: Any interest in a UK croco-puzzle ladder?

Your red line will start going up a lot more quickly now as higher and higher figures are included in the average calculations. The Personliche Statistik page tracks how long it has taken you to go from grade to grade. For instance, it took me 72 days between starting and reaching 20th kyu. I think ...

Re: Croco-Liga team competition, starting in September 2012

Anyone want to make a stab at deciphering the Tabellen page? Is it currently full of a whole season of test data rather than the three (?) test matches that happened? The first three days look genuine, and you can see the table after the first three days based on real results. The rest looks random...

Re: Croco-Liga team competition, starting in September 2012

I have a suspicion that I have been pushing the Croco-Liga hard enough on this forum already to the point where it's put some potential participants off taking part, which is why I deliberately mentioned the test league only once and left it at that. Nevertheless, it's a good way to practice with th...

Re: Any interest in a UK croco-puzzle ladder?

Well, one of the people with most puzzles solved at Croco-Puzzle is GiantPanda , who has solved 1235 puzzles, of which only 49 have been sudoku. This suggests a rate of just under 4%. In truth, I suspect that even that is a slight overestimate; at the moment, I don't have any reason to believe that ...

Re: Croco-Liga team competition, starting in September 2012

Berni is testing the code out by giving all league participants a chance to practice the Croco-Liga interface with a test league over the next week or two, though using computer-generated rather than hand-generated puzzle - and, if I understand correctly, performance on the test league won't affect ...

Northern UK and Southern UK teams now exist! If you're interested in taking part, go to the team list page and click on the "Team beitreten" link next to any team you fancy.
