Re: 24hr Puzzle Championship 2012

Have a browse of the Instruction Booklet; Tiit and Rauno have "Irregular Vowel Sudoku" and "Sudoku-Tapa" in there among the puzzles. Tamas Antal has some regular sudoku in his round; so do the US compilers. There are lots of highly imaginative variants here, and the whole thing looks immensely, imme...

Re: croco-puzzle

The Technische Daten for yesterday's U-Ratsel 2 will explain all. With fewer finishers than non-finishers, the rather hight slowest finishing time was regarded as the median time, so if you finished then even if you were absolutely slow, you didn't have too high a target to beat in order to get a 9D...

Re: Puzzle-solving theatrical experience at Manchester Sci F

It's kind of obnoxious to post a "bump", but please note that the event is this weekend - yesterday, today and tomorrow. I'd be very interested to hear reports of it from any north-westerners. :)

Re: Only Connect

Agreed with everyone else. I thought your team were very good indeed, and you played the game in the way that I (for one) like to see it played - lots of good attempts at puzzles, lots of close misses and being on the right lines. Fingers crossed that you get a chance at a Connecting Wall night or s...

Re: Team UK at the WPC

Final individual results after the play-off are now available. Ulrich wins his eighth world championship! Thomas Snyder goes into the play-offs as #2 and comes out as #2; Palmer Mebane climbs from #4 before the play-offs to #3 afterwards. Congratulations! No sign of the final team results yet, but ...

Re: Team UK at the WPC

Croatia have clearly been up all night marking, like I've been up all night at work, and we now have the results from rounds 1-12 - just about in time for breakfast! As James hinted, these make even better reading for UK eyes, as follows: James 19th (20) Neil 25th (26) Tom 55th (70) Emma N/A (77) AJ...

Re: Team UK at the WPC

I'm working the night shift tonight, but one of the perks is that I can keep refreshing the results page, looking for news. Five minutes ago, new results were posted which now cover rounds 1-10, and feature more good news: James 29th (33) Neil 33rd (38) Tom 50th (59) Emma N/A (80) AJ N/A (107) Alan ...

True, but if the match had been between Northern UK and Southern UK, it would have ended up tied.

Everyone off to the WSC and WPC: travel safely and have a great week!

Re: Croco-Liga team competition, starting in September 2012

I've been wondering: are there any UK solvers on Team US/UK? It's fun to imagine that Team US/UK might be made entirely from US/UK dual nationals, or perhaps we've been reading the name wrong all along and Team US/UK are covertly informing us all that we suck... *friendly grin*

Wow, it looks like over 410 people tried each of the U-Ratsel puzzles today. Is this a record? I can't remember the ranking numbers getting up to 400 in the past! Congratulations to Berni for the continued growth of the site; I wonder if there is any particular event that has happened to increase it...

Puzzle-solving theatrical experience at Manchester Sci Fest

Not quite sure whether this is a link or a competition, but...

The Decoders is "a theatrical experience involving code-breaking, puzzle-solving and unexpected encounters." Free, Manchester, October 27th-29th. Not sure if any of the usual Manchester suspects are involved.

The full results have now been posted, and the top-end British scores are looking very impressive on a global scale, which is well worth celebrating. Congratulations to our strongest half-dozen scorers! By way of a very rough, unscientific strength-in-depth metric, I've looked at where the 4th, 6th ...

Time's up! Thanks very much to Alan, the setters and the testers. I bombed this like Peter Kay in the beer advert and am claiming a provisional eighty, which I suspect is going to prove so weak that I'm going to write it as a word rather than a number to try to be inconspicuous. Enjoyed the first ho...
