Re: Croco-Liga team competition, starting in September 2012

Congratulations, Southerners! The Croco-League is the most fun I've had from logic puzzles all year. It's also pretty low-commitment, just 2-3 puzzles every two weeks. ((ETA:)) And you even get to choose, pretty much, which types of puzzle you're going to solve. Thoroughly recommended if the princip...

Re: 2013 USPC

The puzzles look like a lot of fun IMHO. I'm working the night shift tonight and my 12-hour shift fairly nearly overlaps with the 12-hour window of the test. If it's a quiet one...

Re: DASH 5 puzzle hunt in London on Saturday 25th May

So DASH happened in London on Saturday a couple of days back. The weather stayed dry, despite threatening to at least shower in the morning, and I found the puzzles, the company and the event at large all to be glorious. Speaking on behalf of others is dangerous but I think it's reasonable to say th...

Results are up now. Huge congratulations to everyone, especially *anyone* who managed to clear all sixteen in the time available, but particularly to David - the overwhelming UK winner - and to Kota!

Re: DASH 5 puzzle hunt in London on Saturday 25th May

I've seen it suggested on Twitter that the final registration date for London is now May 12th, so you know what to do. It does occur to me that there will be (a few) dozens of people interested in puzzles present at the event so it would be a great place to get the UKPA word out. Probably best to ch...

Re: Croco-Liga team competition, starting in September 2012

Southern UK, I'm delighted that the Swiss Team did you a favour and you have automatic promotion in your own hands; win your last match and you're guaranteed to go up! Lots of promotions happening now or in the very near future, too; Alan to 6 kyu, Steve imminent 2 kyu, Adam within touching distance...

Re: German Puzzle championship

Goodness, thanks for putting so much work into this; I really appreciate it. The good news is that I had got quite far, correctly all the way through the first four and a half steps, as far as... The 5 can't be above the 8, since we've got 5's blocked out for both the 5th and 6th rows. I didn't have...

Re: DASH 5 puzzle hunt in London on Saturday 25th May

The registration page suggests there's still lots of team spots available (18 at time of posting), so I'm confident we'll still have time to claim a spot. I've seen it suggested on Twitter that registration in some areas has been extended to May 4th. Registration for London is still open, but don't...

Re: German Puzzle championship

Thank you, Neil; that was clear, and I appreciate your time and effort on the walkthrough - both notation and reasoning were clear in context. There are 2 places for a 2 in the bottom N. I got the first sentence in practice, but that was the first bit I didn't get. Note to self: there's more of thes...

Re: German Puzzle championship

Good scores, gang! I dreamt last night that someone here (not saying who, but they took the test) provided a walkthrough of the Kropki-Kakuro, which is the one that I spent 40+ minutes on, twice, without a solution. I'm happy enough with my solution to the top three rows (though without having seen ...

Re: German Puzzle championship

Same here. Thanks very much to those who set it.

No specifics, but I spent 41 minutes on a puzzle, reached a contradiction, left it, came back later, had another go, spent another 40 minutes and reached the same contradiction.

It's my own fault, but... my performance was not what I was hoping for.

Re: DASH 5 puzzle hunt in London on Saturday 25th May

There's a meeting in a pub at lunchtime on Saturday where people will be getting together to try old puzzles, discuss the event and so on. You might want to consider going even if you're still thinking about whether to take part or not. It's unlikely that I'll be there - lots of travelling for just ...

DASH 5 puzzle hunt in London on Saturday 25th May

(...and in 14 locations across the USA on Saturday 18th May.) It's not the sort of culture-free language-neutral puzzle contest that is at the heart of this site, but DASH is a yearly-ish puzzle hunt whose spirit is neatly captured by the full expansion of its title - Different Areas, Same Hunt - an...

Puzzlebrag humblebrag: they say "all good things come to they who wait", and I've been waiting longer than most. I was also waiting for it on the night shift last night - looks like promotions occur once the 5am CET/CST time score recalculation finishes at around 5:30am CET/CST. 9th-kyu.png I manage...

The 2013 Mind Sports Olympiad schedule has just been published, and the Sudoku and KenKen event will take place on the morning of Friday 23rd August. Same time, same place, a near-rerun of 52 weeks previously, and apparently there will be more sudoku this year. Will the UK Open's puzzles be publishe...

Sudoku, possibly, but the 2003 Google U.S. Puzzle Championship had at least 744 US entrants and, ooh, scads of international ones. Other than that, it's up there, at least.

Re: Croco-Liga team competition, starting in September 2012

Not really related to what's going on online, but - in theory - would people be interested in doing something very much like Croco-League Live! at a future UKPA con? I know UKPA con time is limited as it is, so it might be wise to do something with a big more interaction between team members for our...

Have a browse of the Instruction Booklet; Tiit and Rauno have "Irregular Vowel Sudoku" and "Sudoku-Tapa" in there among the puzzles. Tamas Antal has some regular sudoku in his round; so do the US compilers. There are lots of highly imaginative variants here, and the whole thing looks immensely, imme...
