Re: LMI August Sudoku Contest

Ah, I see the 'scores' now - Well done Tom - you did the lot with time to spare! I see that round 1 puzzle 4 only had 66 correct answers submitted. Hardest puzzle after the three of round 5... The completion time of the winner is incredulous! I would never doubt Hideako or Byron's times though. wow!

Re: LMI August Sudoku Contest

Ended up skipping round 1 grid 4 after wasting too much time on it. Also failed to finish the last stage 4 puzzle in time, so I reckon on 270 points for me (over 50%, which is good for me on any timed contest!) It might have been an idea to practice these before launching straight into the contest -...

Re: LMI August Sudoku Contest

That was more fun than I was expecting.
I didn't get to do round 5 either. Won't say any more until it's all over...

UKPuzzles.org is live!

Finally, and after much debate, that I'm sure is not over yet, and many midnight candles, v.1.00 of the main wesite is launched! http://www.ukpuzzles.org/ I know the menu options wrap if you shrink the screen too narrow. I also know that IE7 doesn't handle certain stylesheet aspects. The logo probab...

WPC 2010 Team Selection

The UKPA members have now agreed the wording for UK team selection for this year's WPC in Poland: "UK Team selection for the 2010 WPC will be largely based on performance in the 2010 USPC. The top 2 British performers on the live test will be invited to take a place on the UK team. In the event that...

Re: LMI July Puzzle Contest

I ran out of time doing work things (yes, I know it's Sunday), and didn't even start it.
I'll probably wait until I'm on holiday now until I try it...
Not a bad effort though! I see there are some new names near (not at) the top of the pile.

Re: LMI July Puzzle Contest

Anyone entered this? I plan doing so this evening, though may run out of time.

(I've been rather busy the last couple of nights designing the associations new website.
Members, please read the discussion in the members area. I need as much feedback/contributions as possible...)

Re: 2010 Polish Puzzle Championship

Agreed! The OAPC tournaments were invaluable practice last year, so I'd say it would be a very wise idea indeed to keep up with the Polish puzzle styles!

Re: Arrows puzzles

Try again. WPC2006 (Borovets). Part 2 Puzzle 2: 1 5 5 2 3 3 3 4 5 4 1 3 3 5 5 2 3 2 3 6 4 2 2 3 3 4 5 2 1 4 1 4 4 2 3 2 I can't see an obvious start in. Clearly the 1s at A1 and A6 are limiting, as is the 5 (/6) on the diagonal at C4. Since there are a couple of 2s on that line, it seems the most re...

Re: Arrows puzzles

It's a while since I did these - the post was only really meant as a kick-off point. Anyway... From Part 2, Group 3 of WPC2007 (Brazil). Largest of 3 grids: 3 5 2 3 4 6 1 1 2 1 1 3 4 3 3 4 2 6 1 3 0 0 3 3 4 2 2 2 2 7 2 2 1 2 2 3 Assume grid numbering like a chessboard - F6 = TR corner. Diagonals hav...

Arrows puzzles

There is a square grid of numbers, with space for an arrow at the end of each row/column that points into the grid. You must place arrows in every empty space such that the num...

Erich's Puzzle Palace

Erich Friedman is a mathematician who has contributed many puzzles to USPC and WPC competitions, so it is a good idea to be familiar with his puzzle designs. Many of his online puzzles include a flash solver (click the link that says 'flash' by each puzzle type).
