Re: UK Puzzle Championship 2015

My thanks also to Liane and the puzzle authors for a great contest! Many interesting variations, most of which can be found in this year's 24HPC. My plan was to do this on Sunday morning, but I became violently ill all through Saturday night, and bed-ridden on Sunday and Monday. With time running ou...

Re: UK Puzzle Championship 2015

Hi All, There's a potential newcomer looking to have a go this weekend, but has a faulty printer. Can anyone advise on the use of "paint" to solve the puzzles please? - It's something I've never used. Thanks. MS Paint is fine for shading puzzles, like Blackout Maths, Tents, Tapa, Nanro, Norinori, P...

Re: 2015 Puzzle GP

Quite pleased with that one given that it contained a whole bunch of my less favourite puzzles. Curious though - did anyone else find the opening Japanese Sums harder than the closing ones? I got quickly stuck on the first Japanese Sums, so was forced to guess (that the bottom left cell was a digit...

Re: 2015 Puzzle GP

Thanks Alan, it was an enjoyable set of puzzles for me.

I'm also curious about Neil's No Good Very Bad Day, perhaps that large Cave took all his loving attention but gave nothing back?
Anyway, it was surely just a temporary glitch and he'll be back with a vengeance next month!

Re: Riad Khanmagomedov's April Contest — 3rd to 11th April 2

Thanks guys,
This seems to be a contest style that suits me nicely, I've had a successful run over the last 4 years.
If only the WPCs included some of this...? ;)

http://logicmastersindia.com/2015/04Contest/ Finishes at 10pm UK Saturday night (i.e. exactly 68 hours from now, wherever you live). Re: 2015 Puzzle GP

And with David, Tom, Steve, Emma all in the top 20%, I'd say that was a good round for the UK.

A great set of easy and medium puzzles, thank you Serkan!

Re: 2015 Puzzle GP

I used to think that 24 puzzles was a lot to do in 90 minutes, but 37 is another level again. The time taken to enter the answer key becomes quite relevant for a 2 point puzzle!

This round will finish in 24 hours.

Re: Puzzle Marathon 2015 - LMI

True, the authors became known when the competition started (when Rakesh posted above). I suppose that might mean Tom is yet to start? Anyway I think the odds stay constant, you only get your 1/8 guess after the first is wrong (9/10) and the second is wrong (8/9), so it's still 1/10. And you want to...

which I took great pleasure in making much too hard, so I've got to say I'm quite miffed by being completely overlooked this time round. have you considered there may be a link between those two points? ;) Also James, stop making your guessing game too easy! We've gone from 1/10 to 1/8 in the blink...

Re: Puzzle Marathon 2015 - LMI

My guess - Regional coded snake I don't like Snakes much, their logic has never appealed to me... I shall guess Meandering Numbers purely because I like the type. I like them too, and wrote one for last year's GP to promote the new Japanese idea (and try to change the name to anything but "Count Nu...

Re: 2015 Sudoku GP

I thought, when I checked the rules about applying for bonus points, you could only do that with a full submission - is that wrong? I had a discussion with the organisers last year along those lines. My understanding is that to gain bonus points you may only have a minor error (e.g. two digits swap...

Re: 2015 Puzzle GP

Well done to those that did well. :) A great theme for all the puzzles. And I really like the idea of 8 sets of three puzzles, which allows a wide range of difficulties and should make it more approachable to beginners while still challenging the others. But those 24 puzzles were so time-consuming.....

The 7 in the star is a normal 7. It has no 'consecutive' rules.
There are six white circles in the sky. These are the 'stars'. They show pairs of consecutive numbers.

Very nice Tom, thank you!
