2011 Double Decathlon - LMI October Puzzle Test - 15/16 Oct

A top-quality author, should be a good test. Also looks to be a new system debuting to allow resubmission of wrong answers for a small penalty. Very interesting idea to separate answer-typos from actual wrong answers. Logic Masters India announces October 2011 Puzzle Test — 2011 Double Decathlon Dat...

Re: Diogen IPST. 23-30 September 2011

Looks like there's been a rescoring of puzzle 10, which has bumped me up to the top. Very happy with the result, not necessarily so much with the actual process. And we still have 2 in the top 4 and 3 in the top 7. The first 9 puzzles were great. Tough and innovative, and possible to work through ov...

Re: Diogen IPST. 23-30 September 2011

Thanks for pointing this out, I downloaded the previous test for a look and am now eagerly awaiting the start of this one. A change of pace to the normal speed runs, and the puzzles are very good quality.

Re: Reflections on the croco-puzzle ladder?

I've been thinking about the geometric mean tie-breaker, not a big fan I admit. It's more complicated, much harder for a player to work out if they're ahead or not, just shifts the bias from one type (slow) to another (fast), and will be the same as the current system 95% of the time. But my main wo...

Re: Any interest in a UK croco-puzzle ladder?

Wow Tom, currently top 3 in both puzzles today. Don't you think that's rather unfair on your opponent? ;)

Re: 2011 USPC Walkthrough guide.

#16. Word Connection 11 letters are given. First check that no word can use two of the letters. They can't. So we have 11 letters to assign to 11 of the 12 words. BBCCLPPRTTY Beside each word write the grid letters that it contains. You'll find that: June has none May = Y (so cross out all the other...

Re: US Puzzle Championship (27 Aug 2011 1pm ET)

Might post a comment too while waiting for the results. Printer ink is something I'd never consider to check before starting a competition - you deserve bonus points for doing it in Paint! I've run out of paper before, but a bit of scrambling solved that. Anyway my personal obstacle this time was th...

Re: Any interest in a UK croco-puzzle ladder?

Phew, thanks Tom, that was a very close battle.
If I'd taken 1 more second on the 12th and final puzzle then the whole match result would have been reversed!
I'm sure you'll be back in the top spot back before too long, but for now I hope to put up some resistance for it.

Re: Any interest in a UK croco-puzzle ladder?

Congratulations to Tom (detuned) last week. He was on fire and I bore the brunt of it! In those 5 days he rose 46 points, which is particularly impressive work at the 1900 level. 7 of the 10 puzzles he was top in the UK. He overtook my ranking during the week, I probably would have done a little bet...

Re: Reflections on the croco-puzzle ladder?

I've been thinking on this also. There is definitely elements of equilibrium and parity repetitive matches that have both been mentioned above. Most players just bobble up and down around a few matches. May I throw another option into the ring? My opinion is that a little more movement is desirable ...

Re: 2011 UK Puzzle Championship (25-26 June 2011)

I also read the rules as 8+1 at first (8 shapes, 9 pieces), but as Ulrich pointed out it is quick to prove that 9 pieces must use at least 26 squares.

Thanks Alan, a great set of puzzles, it gave my grey matter a good work-out tonight.
I'll resist going into further details until after it's all finished!

Hi all, Although I've been a 'casual puzzler' for years, entering the German Optimizing Competition was about the only time I got serious with it. Then earlier this year I stumbled across Crocopuzzle, and LMI, and UKPA, and it dawned on me that there is a community out there and a lot of things goin...
