I panicked when my favourite "active topics" disappeared, but found it in Quick Links, so am happy again.

Re: Puzzle GP question

Haha, you know they haven't done a good job of selling these leagues to us if everybody is trying to avoid promotion!
You still get to compete in any round you like right?
Come over to the A-side Emma, we have cookies.

Re: Puzzle GP question

According to http://gp.worldpuzzle.org/content/wpf-gp-puzzle-classes , you started the year in Class B. According to the Rules : Class A participants are those who qualify for at least one of the following conditions: - Finished in the top 10 ranking for the 2014 Puzzle GP - Finished in the top 25 r...

Re: Clouds

Alan's approach is generally best, although you can't always tell how they break down into 2s or 3s or 5s... Tip 1: If there is a 2 next to a 3 (or a 4-3), then no cloud can cross between them. I draw a thick border through the grid along that line. This can be helpful if there are large clues in th...

Re: Puzzle GP round 7

Wow, that Round C has twice as many puzzles as Rounds A or B, and has many new variants (compared to 1 in A).
Normally I don't glance at C, but this one feels quite different.

Re: New Zealand puzzle team

We shall see whether James scores more than the rest of his compatriots put together... I accept your challenge! (actually I expect me vs 4 could be a close battle) The other recent NZ entrant in the GP and UKPC is a work colleague (Ross) of mine that I am encouraging. None of the 'true' NZ WSC/WPC...

Thanks everyone, and congratulations to Adam for a great result.
And thanks to Liane and the 4 authors for an enjoyable and tough contest.
I can't help thinking there is a name missing from the UK list, maybe I missed an earlier comment...

Yeah, I spent some time thinking about that sentence. There's a few war zones in between that I'd steer well clear of. Perhaps some well-placed ferry trips can cover a good percentage of it?
You could travel with your kinsman Alan!

New Zealand puzzle team

There were rumours that an unknown team of New Zealanders were planning to go to Bangalore. This has now been confirmed in our national newspaper this morning. Unfortunately I didn't qualify. :( Not that there were 'qualifications' in the usual sense. But the reporter did track me down via Prasanna ...

Re: UK Puzzle Championship 2017 / WPC Qualification

If people are wanting some practise puzzles, I've collected 32 puzzles from last year's WPC that match types in this weekend's UKPC. (Hopefully the zipped .ppt format is ok to open and print. I had to compress it to 0.97Mb to get it below the 1Mb forum limit.) [EDIT: Sorry, it is forbidden to public...

Re: UK Puzzle Championship 2017 / WPC Qualification

Nice instructions book, it always looks so long at first glance... :)

One minor comment: can we accept C3,C5,E3 for the Battleships answer key? It is Battleships after all!

Tawan posted some photos on his blog.

Riad Khanmagomedov's April Contest

This has just started, and runs from 11th to 19th April, 2017. http://logicmastersindia.com/forum/forums/thread-view.asp?tid=1411 Puzzle book. Obviously this is quite different from typical puzzle contests: - The puzzles are hard, and you have the whole week to solve them. - Three of the puzzles are...

From the GP Forum: " Dear Players, Due to unavoidable time constraints in getting Round 3 of the Puzzle Grand Prix ready, we have had to make changes to the schedule. Specifically, Round 3 is now moved to the weekend where Round 4 was originally scheduled to happen, and the remaining rounds also get...

Re: 2017 Puzzle GP

Yes, the puzzles were great quality, especially the B round. I started all the A round puzzles in pen and finished them in pencil (they have logical solutions, but time pressure didn't give me the luxury to explore). For Nurikabe and Oases in particular I 'felt' my way through the early steps. And I...

Re: 2017 Puzzle GP

I did like having same instructions for A and B, but just putting the hardest puzzles into A does not make a good contest.
Even one extra random 'easy' puzzle would mitigate some of the concerns.

Hopefully that is most of the new rules, feel free to correct or discuss. I'm not sure yet how we know what class we have been assigned to? Re: Logicmasters 2017 Qualifcation

Also, have a look at the Answer Keys before you start. There are two main types: For line drawing ones, it is the number of vertical lines passing between each pair of rows (i.e. a 10x10 grid will need 9 numbers of 0-10 each). For shading ones, it is the length of all black and white blocks (e.g. BW...

They are a good set of puzzles, lots to choose from, nothing is really hard. Extra points: 2. Blackout Domino - Blacked cells cannot be on the diagram edge. This has been in WPC before (http://wiki.logic-masters.de/index.php?title=Blackout_Domino/de) 16 Pentominoeinbau mit Behurung - All white cells...
