Re: 24 Hour Puzzle Championship

Sounds like a successful weekend.
Tawan posted some photos on his blog.

Does anybody have a link to the puzzles, or know if they will be available?

Riad Khanmagomedov's April Contest

This has just started, and runs from 11th to 19th April, 2017. http://logicmastersindia.com/forum/forums/thread-view.asp?tid=1411 Puzzle book. Obviously this is quite different from typical puzzle contests: - The puzzles are hard, and you have the whole week to solve them. - Three of the puzzles are...

Re: 2017 Puzzle GP

From the GP Forum: " Dear Players, Due to unavoidable time constraints in getting Round 3 of the Puzzle Grand Prix ready, we have had to make changes to the schedule. Specifically, Round 3 is now moved to the weekend where Round 4 was originally scheduled to happen, and the remaining rounds also get...

Re: 2017 Puzzle GP

Yes, the puzzles were great quality, especially the B round. I started all the A round puzzles in pen and finished them in pencil (they have logical solutions, but time pressure didn't give me the luxury to explore). For Nurikabe and Oases in particular I 'felt' my way through the early steps. And I...

Re: 2017 Puzzle GP

I did like having same instructions for A and B, but just putting the hardest puzzles into A does not make a good contest.
Even one extra random 'easy' puzzle would mitigate some of the concerns.

Re: 2017 Puzzle GP

Hopefully that is most of the new rules, feel free to correct or discuss. I'm not sure yet how we know what class we have been assigned to? In general I would just solve the puzzles that you enjoy the most. If you do want to enter multiple divisions then read the rules so you understand what will ca...

Re: Logicmasters 2017 Qualifcation

Also, have a look at the Answer Keys before you start. There are two main types: For line drawing ones, it is the number of vertical lines passing between each pair of rows (i.e. a 10x10 grid will need 9 numbers of 0-10 each). For shading ones, it is the length of all black and white blocks (e.g. BW...

Re: Logicmasters 2017 Qualifcation

They are a good set of puzzles, lots to choose from, nothing is really hard. Extra points: 2. Blackout Domino - Blacked cells cannot be on the diagram edge. This has been in WPC before (http://wiki.logic-masters.de/index.php?title=Blackout_Domino/de) 16 Pentominoeinbau mit Behurung - All white cells...

This TVC is more varianty than most.

I have collected any previous puzzles of these types that I could find, mostly from old TVCs or Bram or Prasanna:

Re: Monthly optimization

If you don't normally try optimizing, this is a good one to start with. The rules are simple: Fit a fillomino solution into the mostly-empty grid, using digits 1-9. Your score is the sum of all digits used, so using big numbers is good. But also for every row and column: if there are x different dig...

Re: Comparing the difficulty of the UKPC from year to year

I found this year's contest to be harder, or at least to contain more puzzles in the same time-frame, which I guess matches your first chart. I feel that the time length of 2.5 hours needs further discussion here. 6 years ago I recall there being other contests of this length, now I think there's on...

UK Puzzle Championship 2016 Practice Material

Hi all, I've been collecting links to sites that have relevant practice puzzles for this weekend's UKPC contest. For most of the 'classics' I've put a link to Otto Janko's large website, but I've found some less common types also. In most cases they'll be enough to get you started, and you can decid...

Re: LMI Puzzle Marathon 2016 - 1st to 12th April

It looks like a great set of authors.
(Seriously, there's David and myself and a great set of other authors)
Even if you don't 'compete', they're usually well worth printing off to do in your quiet time.

I notice Palmer has made another marathon Hidoku this year (I made the one last year).

Re: croco-puzzle

It looks like the croco-puzzle Marathon is running over the next fortnight. Some time between 18th March and 4th April you can choose a 24-hour period, within which you solve as many of the 87 puzzles (3 each of 29 types) as possible. Ties are broken by total overall time. Each puzzle has a 10 minut...

Re: WPF Puzzle GP 2016

Well done to Adam Bissett, 1st= in Casual. The Competitive section was a (Kropki-) sprint this time, with Neil and I in the top bunch. My main rule with sprints is to really double-check every answer before claiming Bonus. Sure it costs a couple of minutes, and in non-sprint contests won't matter hu...
