Re: Tawan S's Nikoli Hurdles II

Thanks Tawan,
#6 was also my favourite (I have found some at http://www.janko.at/Raetsel/Foseruzu/index.htm before, this one has nice logic), and I always have a soft spot for a nice Kanaore (#8).

Re: Online puzzle magazine for pro's

This is a pdf magazine with higher difficulty puzzles than the Akil Oyunlari magazine.

It is definitely worth downloading their free sample magazine http://www.patreon.com/meraklisinakiloyunlari?ty=c, which is 12 pages of good looking puzzles to keep you quiet for a while...

Re: [SOTR] July Puzzle Giants

Nice puzzle Tawan, I like how the Masterminds glue it together.

Other Modern Tapas do not allow the cogwheels to be reflected, I think you should mention it in the instructions if yours does allow it.

Re: 2014 WPF Puzzle Grand Prix

I earlier had a look after 5 rounds, calculated everyone's 'best 4 scores'. The top 7 then were basically locked in, and the next 5 places were (in order) 8. 326 Jakub O 9. 318 Neil Z 10. 313 Peter H 11. 312 James M 12. 306 Nikola Z with only 3 spots remaining for those 5 people. And so after the 6t...

Thanks for the warning Tom, I doubt I would have recognised the Aktuellste Meldung message. I'm enjoying the 24HourPC puzzle types being showcased currently.
(PS I think there are 9 solutions? :geek: )

Re: World's hardest Sudoku and it’s a 2 x 2: Can you crack i

Everything I've read so far sounds like a standard sudoku app written by non-sudoku players. :|
There's been two further ramblings since the first warning. We all have better things to spend our time doing.
If it's world-changing we can find out after it's released...?

They are a nice set to do, and some of the less common types are from the UKPC 2012 which might make them more familiar to us.

Thank you Ulrich, a great contest.
I'm having a good couple of weeks... but that leaderboard is still surprising!

also, i'm quite curious about the pentominos - I've just whizzed through it now in 5-10 minutes, but after the initial break-in I almost exclusively abused uniqueness to get to the (a?) solution. Would anyone care to enlighten me? Without uniqueness? Alright, if you want the hard way. :) Put...

Re: UKPA Puzzle Championship 2014

Thanks guys, I'll admit to feeling a big Wow also! I didn't feel blisteringly fast, but managed to avoid any roadbumps. A few of the other top finishers had a submission error, which seriously cut their bonus score. And luckily Nikola ran out of puzzles to do that he hadn't written! :) I actually fo...

#13 appears to have a 2nd valid answer, which affects the 13b key. Or is it, as usual, just me?
You are welcome to email me your alternative solution(s), and then I can tell you if it's just you or not?

Re: Japanese Number Place & Puzzle Championships

There are now English-language instructions as well. http://jppuzzles.com/wp-content/uploads ... 519_en.pdf
Or read the Japanese version for good practise of 'instructionless' types.
It's interesting that there are no standard 'Nikoli' style puzzles this year.

Last year people not competing for the US team were able to enter this competition later in the day (it's not a great time for the Asian third of the world).
I don't see any mention of that option in the rules this year. Anyone know? Did the 2014 USSQ do that?

Re: UKPA Puzzle Championship 2014

A good looking set of puzzles, thanks to Liane and the authors for preparing this.
Not a big deal, but the hyphens in the answer keys of #20 and #23 have merged, although in other puzzles they stayed separate. We should blame MS Word?
