Re: Puzzles at the Mind Sports Olympiad in London next Frida

Today we learned that Mark had indeed won the gold medal - congratulations ! This gives us four years on the trot of UKPA winners. I was delighted to win bronze, neatly completing my set of medals/metals :-)

Re: The Times Sudoku Championship 2014

Thanks. Congratulations to Mark Goodliffe on his first victory. This means that he holds The Times sudoku and crossword championships concurrently, an amazing feat ! Congratulations also to Tom Collyer for second place in the grand final (with him and Mark reversing the placings from the earlier ses...

Re: Puzzles at the Mind Sports Olympiad in London next Frida

At least two of us were there (apologies to anyone else I missed), plus a few other familiar faces from previous years and from the Times event (which will be this Saturday) - both are David Levy / Tony Corfe events. It was a new venue - the JW3 centre on Finchley Road rather than ULU. I know the ar...

Re: Puzzles at the Mind Sports Olympiad in London next Frida

I'm very sorry to hear that you won't be there, Tom. It's on Saturday 21st at the usual recent venue - the Times offices near St Katherine Docks. I'll be there, and Mark said at MSO that he would be too. Agreed : I wish him such well-deserved success as well [but will someone please point me towards...

Re: Puzzles at the Mind Sports Olympiad in London next Frida

Congratulations to Mark Goodliffe (magoo) on winning the gold medal at today's sudoku/kenken event at the Mind Sports Olympiad in London. Mark zoomed to gold, speedily finishing first in each half with all-correct entries (eight of each). I was very pleased to take silver with a (somewhat-slower) al...

Re: UKPA Sudoku Championship 2013 (On-line event)

Many thanks Tom and all the organisers/testers. An excellent set of puzzles, even though one of them (Arrows) defeated me twice during the contest and cost me a lot of time and any hope of a decent finish! Many congratulations to David, Michael and Neil, especially David for completing the set. Tog...

Re: Puzzles at the Mind Sports Olympiad in London next Frida

Thanks for the details of this year's event - last year, Mark, Rodders and I were juggling business and pleasure throughout the event. For info, last year the event was run by David L and Tony C (who also run the Times event) and involved classic sudokus rather than variants.

Re: WPF Sudoku GP - Round 1 : 25-27 Jan 2012

Well done Tom and others (especially Emma, Rodders and Neil). Personally I always really enjoy Sudokucup contests : whilst I'm never in any danger of finishing anywhere near the top, they always makes me feel as if I am just about loitering on the edge of the solar system rather than disappearing in...

Re: Finnish Puzzle and Sudoku Championships (3th-5th August)

Hello. I can open the Sudoku SM 2012 PDF file using the password las7eNkdil. I do not understand the yellow answer (Vastaus) box in the PDF. In question 1 (normal Sudoku) I see a yellow Vastaus box with the numbers 785281476 - there are two number 8s which is a surprise. I cannot see those numbers a...

2012 Croatian Qualification Puzzles

Thanks Alan. For info, with part 2 I had a character set printing problem on page 2 (the first page of puzzles) but reprinting it as a single page was OK. For part 3, I understand the sum, diagonal sum, digits anagram and skyscraper aspects, but I'm struggling with how the letters work (even using G...

Thank you. Oh, what a shocker : you mean the other David :D

Ah well, at least I was third for the UK in the sudoku, although admittedly it was rather a big gap from 16 and 17 to 97 ...

Thank you to the Sudokucup team - I always enjoy your contests.

It sounds fascinating - coincidentally I came across George's flyer from Eger a few days ago. It would be interesting to hear from Tom and Mike about their experiences last year, and whether they feel it is worth, say, someone of my level going in for it.
