Re: Results: 2017 UK Puzzle Championship

I'm delighted to see quite so many different UK solvers taking part; off the top of my head I think 29 is a considerable leap forward from a previous best of 25. Curious to know why the time limit was only two hours rather than two and a half; I suspect solvers could well have been kept busy for an...

Re: UK Puzzle Championship 2017 / WPC Qualification

Nice instructions book, it always looks so long at first glance... :) One minor comment: can we accept C3,C5,E3 for the Battleships answer key? It is Battleships after all! For you James! Yes, this will be acceptable, however, as it won't be the primary solution in the answer key it would need to b...

Yes, that would be an alternative solution for the example. All competition puzzles do have unique solutions.

Re: UK Puzzle Championship 2017 / WPC Qualification

Minor clarification of answer keys for #6 and #18. #6: Enter the content of the marked rows using the pentomino "letter" for pentomino pieces or # for empty cells. (The pentomino letters will be given with the pentominoes in the competition booklet.) #18: Enter the content of the marked rows - ident...

Re: 24 Hour Puzzle Championship

Thanks to everyone involved with the 24hr Championship - organisers, marking team, puzzle authors, testers etc. As usual I had a great time. My flight wasn't due to leave until 20:35 but I managed to stay awake in the airport - was asleep on the plane before they shut the doors. Thought I was going ...

Re: 2017 Puzzle GP

I was a careless numpty with 2B - for once managed to solve all in the time - stupid entry error on one of them and forgot to claim any bonus - mainly because that's something I never get chance to do.

2C - numpty again - two careless entry errors cost me over 40 places.

Re: UKPA Open Sudoku and Puzzle Tournament 2017

Just one more question: In Power of Tapa, am I right in understanding that a three number clue is either a power (a^(b^c)) or a 3 digit clue - it can't be one digit and a power. So, for example 2 1 3 is either just 2 or 2 1 3, it can't be 2 1 or 2 3 (from 2 & 1^3 or 2^1 & 3). Pretty sure that's wha...

Struggling a bit with Puzzle Round 2. Will the thermometers in puzzle 3 be in grey? They are currently too dark and obscure the solver's pencil marks. Can we assume in puzzle 4, that every cell will be used? The rules for puzzle 6 are totally unclear. The example has several wrong numbers. As in pu...

Are the Arrows puzzles both ones with only one square around the grid? Or could there be a two square boundary (sometimes called Double Arrows, iirc)? Or is it a surprise?
Both are a single line of arrows round the boundary as the example.
