The Supercalculators documentary

A very interesting documentary on the radio today - the parallels between this and the world puzzle championships I thought were remarkable. It also features Ken Wilshere! Alex Bellos heads to Germany to meet the supercalculators taking part in this year's Mental Calculation World Cup. Prepare to be...

Enjoyed this - just the two of us from the UK having a go so far, but definitely worth a go!

LMI contest: Enthralling Sudoku

12 fairly standard variants in 90 minutes. I've just solved it, and would recommend to beginners and experienced hands alike

Re: Puzzles at the Mind Sports Olympiad in London on Sunday

Ken Wilshere there on 6 golds in 51st!

What were the formats like this year? Looks as if they've substituted killer sudoku in for kenken in the sudoku event, and then moved kenken in with "other puzzles". What was the variety like?

PuzzleUp

This is something that I've looked at with half an eye in previous years - I know that Alan and James have as well. I don't think it'd be appropriate to discuss the puzzles publicly in the forums but perhaps if there's enough interest we can set up a mailing list Dear PuzzleUp Contenders, This year'...

Re: Results: 2018 UK Sudoku Championship

On the subject of the diagonal, Simon Anthony has posted a great walkthrough of his solve on youtube. It was not an easy puzzle, but I hope this demonstrates that it was a fair puzzle!

Results: 2018 UK Sudoku Championship

Congratulations to Sam Cappleman-Lynes, who has impressively claimed the UK Sudoku Championship on debut. Sam solved 14 of the 16 puzzles in a strong performance, and now qualifies for the UK team at the World Sudoku Championships later this year in Prague. Joining Sam on the team is runner-up Heath...

Re: UK Puzzle & Sudoku National Championships 2018

Traditionally I always say I'm going to do answer booklets and end up being too tired after the event to go back and do them. As I don't have the answers to hand, is there a particular puzzle you are interested in Angus?

Thanks - I thought the link was fixed but turns out it’s only in the admin version. Alan, could you fix please?

Also, an updated version of the instructions is now available, with points distribution.

Re: UK Sudoku Championship 2018 / WSC Qualification

One thing that has come up from the testing is a clarification to the rules of Puzzle 11 Consecutive Pairs. Not all possible pairs of cells have been marked! This means that it is possible for consecutive numbers to be placed in adjacent cells where there is no marking between them. This is the main...

The Times Sudoku Championship 2018

So as last year's winner (and therefore part of the top 12) I just received an e-mail inviting me to this year's championship. The date is set at Saturday 22nd September 2018. I imagine the qualifying puzzles will be appearing in the paper shortly - I haven't bought the Times this week though so it'...
