Liane - I know you've set up a mailing group so thought it would be echoing David C's post about the train strikes, to make sure everyone has taken into account of their travel plans.

Re: UK Puzzle League Divisions A and B 2022-23

To give Adam a heads up, I gave the LMI thing a go this time round. I found it a bit of a strange choice of puzzles, but I suppose that's just luck of the draw

Re: 2023 UK Results Thread

Preliminary results of Round 2 of the Sudoku GP:

46 Jack Lawrence 501
96 Tom Collyer 409
97 Matthew White 408

A new name to me, Matt Siegfried, was narrowly behind Tom and Matthew just outside the top 100. A really good result for Jack there too, top 50 and breaking 500 points - well done!

Re: Upcoming international puzzle and sudoku events

Olivier L and Roger K from the WPF board seem to be very active on the WPF discord. Perhaps sending them a direct message there would be quickest?

Otherwise could try generally emailing the WPF - presumably the director is vaguely monitoring that and could pass it on.

Re: 2023 UK Results Thread

Is it me, or is everyone getting much better at puzzles :) or maybe I'm just getting worse. In any case, there are some results from round 1 of the GP. Very interesting to see two Chinese solvers at the top of the tree - an 1100+ score seems insane, as does taking >25% off Ken Endo's time. And as we...

Re: 2023 UK Results Thread

I’m going to be much less reliable posting LMI results, but again anyone else is welcome to add them :) anyhow round one of the annual puzzle Ramayan has happened. I don’t know how to benchmark outside of a top 3, and I don’t know how much bearing to put on the score - please improve on this if you ...

Re: 2023 UK Results Thread

One other thought: I don’t know how frequently the WPF are going to be updating their new ratings (see also the other thread) but that might be an easy way to benchmark a notable performance for a certain individual? I guess there’s still a bit more data work there required than my cursory glance at...

Re: 2023 UK Results Thread

I guess top 100 has been a rule of thumb when posting results previously - there wasn't that much logic behind it other than it seemed like a reasonable benchmark for solvers to aim at, and it did seem like there were increasingly many UK solvers managing to hit it. Fair's fair, I have only just not...

2023 UK Results Thread

Thought it would be a good idea to collate results from various competitions. Feel free to chip in with anything you think is missing. I may also use this as the basis for a monthly digest to the newsletter. I’ll try and stick to a format of top 3 and then judgemental honourable mentions (e.g. getti...

It's also worth clarifying that any work that does get used becomes the property of the WPF.

Sudoku GP 2023: Call for new UK authors

The UK has been - provisionally - given the April round of the 2023 edition of the WPF's Sudoku GP: https://gp.worldpuzzle.org. Note that the website has not yet been updated. If you are a UK (=eligible for a UK passport) Sudoku author interested in contributing, please could you let me know by the ...

Re: 2022 US Puzzle Championship

It's worth adding the practice test doesn't have all that much to do with the actual competition - there are no shared types. If I had to guess the practice test is just a collection of leftover puzzles, although perhaps it's still useful to get a rough idea of the points to difficulty calibration.

Round 8 preliminary results now out - they look unlikely to change, so here we go with the UK top 3: 12. Sam Cappleman-Lynes 568 22. Freddie Hand 635.5 36. Tom Collyer 532 Jeremy Kong the only other UK listed name in the top 100 - although note for results going forward we should be more accurately ...

2022 Schedule is out - of most interest is the Sudoku and Killer Sudoku competition on Tuesday 23rd August. I can't see a puzzle event there however.

Re: 2022 WPC and WSC UK Team Qualification Policy

A similar appeal on individuals outstanding:

Could Jeremy Kong please confirm UK eligibility (being listed as Singapore on UKPA and UK on the WPF GP. If so, please could he also confirm whether he intends to take a place on the A team.

Similarly could we please hear from Calum Mailer.

Round 7 preliminary results:

3. Freddie Hand 821.5 (perhaps this will change due to partial bonus?)
7 Neil Zussman 648
26 James McGowan 460

Adam Bissett, Matthew White and Tom Collyer are all just outside the top 50 (separated by a mere 7 points!), and Jeremy Kong also made the top 100.
