Re: Some puzzles for your solving pleasure

Sam, thanks for putting these puzzles together. I haven't tried them yet but they look fantastic.

Do you think that we could all collectively think about publishing daily puzzles or weekly puzzle sets? Or monthly competitions?

Or is Cracking the Cryptic already doing enough?

Re: UKPA Hybrid Sudoku Contest

Glum,

Please don't be. You may not win with those solving speeds but it's the taking part that counts. I would encourage you to persevere with the Killer/Clone example. Think Z pentomino. Sorry if that's too cryptic.

Good luck,

David.

Re: UKPA Hybrid Sudoku Contest

Your initial assumption is the correct one i.e each group of grey shaded cells must contain a set of distinct consecutive digits.

Re: Results: 2019 UK Puzzle Championship

Thanks Liane for organising the great contest. I was very surprised to be able to attempt so many puzzles in the time allowed. I thought I wasn't going to enjoy it, as there were so few number puzzles. In the end, the TomTom proved one of the fiddliest puzzles in the set, and some of my less favouri...

Re: UK Puzzle Championship 2019 / WPC Qualification

Just dropping in. Liane, thanks for posting the instruction booklet. Is it possible to post a copy of the UK Open puzzles? I think there was at least one Loose Magnets puzzle therein. Or just those particular puzzles if it isn't possible to post the whole files. One other piece of pedantry. Can you ...

There is an error in the puzzle. Either two circles have the wrong total or one of the sectors is wrong.

Thanks Tom.

I was interrupted for approximately 10 minutes by a work colleague! The enforced break may have helped me crack that final remainder puzzle.

Re: Grandmaster Puzzles

Just thought I'd flag up a very enjoyable Fillomino puzzle which I stumbled on recently from Thomas' Grandmaster Puzzles blog. https://www.gmpuzzles.com/blog It was posted on 19 January and was set by John Bulten. Don't be guessing! The logic is great. Well worth having a go and also looking at some...

Re: New "paper puzzle" game - feedback requested!

Don't usually respond to requests like this, but Tom has encouraged me to say something. The Hexanatsu format looks by far the most interesting. How constrained is the set of solutions for a single hexagon? Could we combine hexagons with other polygons to expand the solution space? Why not allow ant...

I have just been sent an e-mail congratulating me on becoming a second Dan. Second Dan used to be for a long-term average of over 2200 and I'm nowhere near that. Have the rules changed?

Re: UKPA Open Sudoku and Puzzle Tournament 2017

Struggling a bit with Puzzle Round 2. Will the thermometers in puzzle 3 be in grey? They are currently too dark and obscure the solver's pencil marks. Can we assume in puzzle 4, that every cell will be used? The rules for puzzle 6 are totally unclear. The example has several wrong numbers. As in puz...
