Re: Doppelblock

In terms of the second example, this was my sticking point: https://i.ibb.co/3ycXNp4/doppelblock1.png My approach here was to note that the 3 in C5 and the 3 in R5 interact through their common cell - either both clues are a 1-length gap or both clues are a 2-length gap. This means that either both ...

Re: UKPA Yajilin Contest (10 Sep - 13 Sep)

I also want to say thanks to everyone who took part. I know there are a number of solvers who were taken aback by the difficulty. I considered applying a warning to the contest beforehand, but I didn't want to 1) scare off people who might have otherwise enjoyed it or 2) influence how the top solver...

Re: UKPA Yajilin Contest (10 Sep - 13 Sep)

Hi pin7guin, Here are some examples of the rule in action which hopefully will clear things up. This situation is not allowed , as the two squares are the same size (both 1x1) and can directly see each other https://i.ibb.co/G3mQxF0/disallowed1.png This situation is allowed , as although the two squ...

Re: UKPA Yajilin Contest (10 Sep - 13 Sep)

Sam, In the rules for Look-Air Yajilin, "the total number of distinct squares" is possibly open to misinterpretation. I briefly wondered if it meant "the number of distinct square sizes" e.g. the intended rule is that two single-celled black squares separated by a 4-cell black s...

Haha, well spotted. I did read over everything to check that I hadn't left in anything that didn't make sense or wasn't true but I missed that one.

Re: 2021 WPF Sudoku and Puzzle GPs

I did the same for Meandering Wordsearch and the 2 minutes I spent doing so was easily offset by how much easier the puzzle became to solve.

Re: UK Puzzle Championship 2021

Is there any chance of having the two sets of clues in Hashi/Hotaru Beam being a different shade? I think it would then be easier to tell them apart at first glance, rather than relying on the presence or otherwise of black dots.

Re: UK Sudoku Championship 2021

1 and 9 are not considered consecutive. The middle box actually contains four distinct shaded groups of two cells each, although I can see how it could be easily misconstrued :) In the contest puzzle itself the regions are clearly distinct from each other, so this sort of mistake shouldn't happen th...
