Everyone will be eligible to have a go at these puzzles, but UK puzzlers, remember to register for the League if you'd like ...

Fillomino

Ahead of the Beginners Fillomino round in a month, I wanted to start a discussion of Fillomino techniques. Nikoli describes the rules in this way: 1) Fill in all empty cells with numbers under the following rules. 2) Divide all of the board into blocks. Fill each block with the same number horizonta...

Re: UK Puzzle League 2020-2021

Hi Tom

Yes, I’m happy for interested UK puzzlers to register their interest here if they’d prefer.

A reminder that I require your name, your UKPA username and which division you expect to be in.

The UK created puzzles will still be available to competitors in higher divisions, don’t worry!

UK Puzzle League 2020-2021

We’re going to have a UK Puzzle League to give all of us something to aim for. All UK puzzlers are welcome to join a division and compete in monthly puzzles over six months to decide division winners and an overall UK League Champion. If you have not competed regularly in the past, Division D is for...

Re: WPF Puzzle GP 2020

Perfect Liane. It was the bottom right centre square that I hadn’t seen but that helped me to go through. A very nice puzzle once that was opened. Thank you.

Re: WPF Puzzle GP 2020

It’s the last round of Puzzle GP this weekend, in case anyone’s missed it.

Also, I was trying to work through Round 7 after my abysmal mess and can’t get started on the larger Heyawake. Can anyone give me a start on it?

Thank you.

Re: WPF Puzzle GP 2020

Postponed until after the last round now. Gives me a chance to see if anyone could do the Honey Islands and Easy As Japanese Railway examples from the IB. I couldn't work out how to get started at all in the Honey Islands. What are we supposed to be looking for to break in? Easy As Japanese Railways...

Re: Where should a beginner start with puzzles?

I agree with everything Freddie says. If you search back in the logic masters India history, you’ll see some beginners competitions, where they have some puzzle sets on some of the more common types, getting gradually harder. This is a good way into some of the key types that I found.

Hi

In the kropki kakuro in Puzzles Round 4, it doesn’t state that all such kropki circles are present, but that rule does apply in the example. Are all such circles present?

Re: WPF Puzzle GP 2020

I’m not very impressed with the fill in the blanks. How is that a puzzle? I had a quick look while it was printing out but assumed some level of thought, not just processing, would be involved. I’m not sure how that warrants a space in the mix. Otherwise I did like the range of puzzles available, bu...

Re: WPF Sudoku GP 2020

With the hidden clone, I managed to work out where the clone was, but couldn’t place a single number. Could you give me a hint to start it now? I found the classics very difficult too. For so few points, I thought they were fairly nasty. I don’t mind hard classics being there, but for those points, ...

I feel like there must be some technique to go faster. Is there anything anyone has found to help speed up a kakuro?

Re: UK Puzzle Championship 2019 / WPC Qualification

When solving the Kuromasu example, it made me wonder whether the remaining white cells can be orthogonally connected through the clue cells, or whether all the white cells had to be touching and the clue cells blocked the white cell connections.

Exciting looking mix here. I'm looking forward to it.

Morning Liane For the Twin Killer in Sudoku round 5, I’m a bit confused. Congratulations James, and well done Emma. Great result! I’ve been gamely plodding ahead with the puzzles I didn’t get in the time limit. The Fillomino different shapes has me completely baffled. I broke it in a few places. What should I have been doing? The Finnish snake, I managed to rule out a fe...
