World Championships 2017- Updates

Not for the first time, I'm creating a series of vlogs from the tournament. The first one can be found here, which is from yesterday, and today's update is just uploading so I'll post the link shortly.

I love question 12a.
Same here! :)
Yeah that was about the only one I could solve on a brief scan through, very nice.

Re: Puzzle GP round 7

Hmm, could've done with a bit more notice about this.

As a heads up, round 8 is next weekend already!

Play-offs

Interesting article (in my opinion) about the use of end-of-season play-offs in Rugby League: http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/rugby-league/40698382 Basically, Castleford have won the regular league season for the first time ever, but because there are end-of-season play-offs culminating in a Grand Final,...

Re: 24 Hour Puzzle Championship

I've asked Gyorgy if he can book a couple of Escape rooms for us for Friday, as he has done in the past. So far I believe there are 3 people interested, Tom, Tawan and me, but anyone else is welcome to join.

Re: 24 Hour Puzzle Championship

There's a chance of me being able to go this year. Is anyone interested in those Hungarian escape rooms on Friday? If there's a group going I hope to tag along and book my flights accordingly. Hopefully, they have different rooms set up by now. I'm certainly planning to do one or more escape ...

Re: 24 Hour Puzzle Championship

Just booked my flights, you can currently get a return journey from London, Thursday to Sunday, for under £130, so there's no excuse for anyone even remotely tempted, at least not for those near London- it's a lot more fun than it may sound! :)
In other words- Tom, get yourself organised. ;)

Re: Puzzles at the Mind Sports Olympiad in London on Sunday

Well done on your second place, David. You'll now be aiming for Gold, Bronze and unplaced in some order in the next 3 years, I assume, to complete the double set? ;) Puzzles were considerably easier than last year, in my experience at least. I hope they keep running this on Sunday rather than Friday...

This event is taking part again in a couple of weeks, on the 28th (Sunday of the Bank Holiday weekend). I'll be there!

Re: UKPC Results and 2016 UK WPC Team

That's a ridiculously huge winning margin Hideaki had, congrats to him, and thanks to everyone involved in the organising. Definitely a tough one, not many easy points (if any!), but there was some nice logic on quite a few of them.

Re: UKSC Results and 2016 UK WSC Team

I think the top 4 have now all confirmed they intend to compete? In which case, congrats to all 4, and good luck in October! :)

Edit: Just noticed it says November in your first post Alan, but I'm pretty sure we're all going to turn up at the right time nonetheless. ;)

Last chance to do the US round today. Well worth it if you can find the time (or just take the puzzles and solve at leisure later).

Re: Puzzles at the Mind Sports Olympiad in London on Sunday

Yes, as David said, I attended for the first time, due to it not being a workday, and being held less than an hour from my flat, so I had no good reason not to. I stayed around for the results, so I can confirm that I won, fortunately no mistakes so a perfect score. Didn't recognise the other two na...

Re: 2015 Puzzle GP

While we wait for the results to round 8, did anyone else find the points allocation a bit... strange. The two Kakuro's weren't that bad, imho, and I'm no Kakuro expert. Maybe with more experience of the puzzle I'd have knocked off the Japanese Arrows with less difficulty but as it was, I didn't re...

I really liked the killer once I got into it. Couldn't see how to start the palindrome or secret code, but perhaps a second look will help.

Re: UK Sudoku Championship 2015

Yes, we've all got hard luck stories, David, don't worry! ;) I finished the irregular within a minute or so of the finish, having earlier wasted precious seconds (minutes?) sorting out a printer paper jam... Anyway, well done Mark (he says through gritted teeth!) and especially well done Heather. B ...

Re: 2015 Puzzle GP

Congrats James, great performance. Since people asked, I should say that anyone who beat me, beat me fair and square, I can't complain. I'm allowed to have off days. :-) I did solve the 54-point cave, but I solved it by guessing, and then misentered the answer key because I forgot my own notation. :...

Re: 2015 Puzzle GP

Really enjoyed the easy-ness of some of those puzzles, after the horror of struggling with the LMI marathon over the weekend. Didn't expect to be so high though, chuffed with that, and congrats to James as well. In fact nearly all the UK solvers had their best result on this one, compared to the pre...

Have only just seen that people are trying to guess which
Is James's.
Doesn't it say the answer on the submission page?
Or am I mistaken?
Knowing the answer probably disqualifies me.
Unless anyone says otherwise, I won't spoil it.

Re: UKPA Puzzle Championship 2014

That's a ridiculous winning margin. Congrats James! Thanks Neil, your similar effort last year inspired me. I only won by 2 minutes, but that's not the margin you're referring to. ;) One day we'll both 'fire' at the same time :) I might be going crazy, but when I first looked, I'm sure Hideaki had ...
