I really liked that round even though I got only about half of the pieces in place :-) If I remember correctly, you got points per correct piece and there was a penalty if you had wrong piece in your final solution. But it was nice to have partial points when you have only one sudoku to solve for a ...

A .pdf document saved by archive.org has a full chart of results from 1992 to 2010, including the full details of the UK '96 performances. Noticed that the "Time until contest starts" is different in
http://www.ukpuzzles.org/contests.php?contestid=39 than in
http://www.ukpuzzles.org/answers.php?contestid=39

I believe the latter is the correct one, or?

Yes, you are most probably right about the ink.
Just wanted to give a hint/reminder about the black-n-white printing to others, too :-)

Hi,
When printing the instructions, I noticed that if I had colours enabled the shaded markings (such as thermometer) turned out to be in very light pink and were difficult to see. When I chose black-n-white printing, the markings were nicely visible.
