Re: Puzzles at the Mind Sports Olympiad in London on Sunday

And by coincidence* I have just noticed your name in relation to a fascinating website that I have visited about a loosely-related genre of TV programmes - thank you for that too :-) * I didn't bother adding words like "weird", "strange", "remarkable" or "amazing" - even though I wanted to - because...

Re: Puzzles at the Mind Sports Olympiad in London on Sunday

As far as I am aware, 2011 was the first event of "the modern era". Detailed results are available under the Results dropdown list at http://www.msoworld.com/ . There was a Puzzle Solving event in 1998 : I don't know the format but it sounds too early and I don't recognise any of the names involved ...

Re: UK Sudoku Championship 2017 / WSC Qualification

Hi Tom. This is a comment on the PDF answer format, not the sudoku itself. Sudoku 5 (Classic Sudoku) has r4 and r6 both marked as A. I naturally assumed r4=A and r6=B (top to bottom) and my answer has been accepted.

Re: 2017 Sudoku GP

The 5th round is currently underway. I haven't attempted it yet and obviously don't intend to comment on the actual puzzles while it is underway. However if, like me, you are surprised and confused by the answer to the Unicorn puzzle in the practice paper (because of some 9s attacking other 9s a kni...

Re: Puzzles at the Mind Sports Olympiad in London on Sunday

Thanks. Absolutely - the symmetry would be far more pleasing than a lop-sided straight run of golds :-) I have mixed feelings about the Sunday : it's normally OK for me, but it does disrupt the Bank Holiday weekend. Friday could always be a pain because of clashes with meetings at work, but I found ...

Re: Puzzles at the Mind Sports Olympiad in London on Sunday

Eleven I think. Neil and I were there from UKPA but there was no sign of Mark or Rodders. Obviously a few of the MSO regulars were there (including Alain, who came third).

Re: UKSC Results and 2016 UK WSC Team

Congratulations to Heather, and to Tom, Mark and Emma. Best wishes for Slovakia later on in the year. Thank you to everyone involved in setting and running both of the sudoku contests. Maybe I should start having a look at the puzzle contests instead !

Re: UK Open Puzzle & Sudoku Tournaments

Hi. Thanks for these. Look forward to seeing you all soon. Sudoku R2 Q5. Is the additional "non-consecutive" condition a copy-and-paste typo ? The example puzzle doesn't seem to conform. Should it say something else (about the pencil marks) instead ? Sudoku R4 Q9, will the numbers between the slalom...

Re: The Times Sudoku Championship 2015

Hi. A warning to anyone attending on Saturday to check their post. Tonight I came home to find a letter postmarked yesterday with First Class scribbled by hand on the front. Last year I was a grand finalist and quite a few weeks ago I replied to the letter inviting me to take up my place. This year ...
