Re: Puzzles at the Mind Sports Olympiad in London next Frida

I'm afraid I also won't be there this year due to a prior engagement. Hoping the dates fall better for me next year but good luck to all who do attend.

Re: Puzzles at the Mind Sports Olympiad in London next Frida

Well played Mark and David! I'm afraid it clashed with my one day of Ashes cricket for the summer so I had to take the tough decision to head to the Oval. Will be back there next year to aim for a UKPA 1-2-3.

Re: UKPA Sudoku Championship 2013 (On-line event)

Many thanks Tom and all the organisers/testers. An excellent set of puzzles, even though one of them (Arrows) defeated me twice during the contest and cost me a lot of time and any hope of a decent finish! Many congratulations to David, Michael and Neil, especially David for completing the set. Toge...

Re: LMI - Moscow Puzzle Cup

Wish I had read that post before pressing 'Start Test'! Thought the test had finished and I was just printing out the puzzles to do on the train later. Realised it was still live and then had to surreptitiously try to do them while at work! Shame as I would have enjoyed doing them in a slightly more...

Re: LMI Competition - Word Show (17-19 Nov 2012)

Great result James - unlucky re not being included for the ratings. Think that's also my best LMI result, although I notice not as big a field as usual so it was a better opportunity of a top 20 finish for me. I really enjoyed the puzzles, although I found the wordsearch took far longer than the poi...

Re: Croco-Liga team competition, starting in September 2012

Not sure we're giving much away at the moment discussing tactics here, but we probably ought to find a better place than the Mini Chat and this forum for the next lot of puzzle assignments :D Given that some strategy was likely to be better than the random assignment of puzzles, I made some changes ...

Re: Any interest in a UK croco-puzzle ladder?

Likewise from me, Chris, many thanks for running the ladder over the past 18 months (I can't believe it has been that long!) - it has been very efficiently and diligently managed and brought a lot of enjoyment to the participants. Personally speaking, I think the additional competitive element has i...

Re: 2012 US Puzzle Championship (USPC)

Complete disaster for me I believe. That's the last time I get up ridiculously early on a Sunday morning just to prove my brain doesn't work at that hour! Haven't checked the solutions yet, but believe that the 40 or so minutes I spent on the gapped kakuro likely to result in 0 points as I hurriedly...

Re: Puzzles at the Mind Sports Olympiad in London next Frida

Any information about it somewhere? Qualifiers for The Times were in the paper in May/June so I'm afraid you'll need to wait until next year to try to qualify. There are 5 qualifying puzzles over the course of a week (top 20 in each puzzle qualify) but they don't tend to give too much notice so you...

I echo the thanks to everyone involved, especially Gareth and Liane. Very enjoyable set of puzzles, and many congratulations to David on a strong performance and a good victory. From a personal point of view, I felt I should have been 70 points better as I wasted 10 minutes on admin (printer and lap...

Re: Puzzles at the Mind Sports Olympiad in London next Frida

Well spotted Chris. I may need to alter a couple of work commitments but I hope to go and defend my title this Friday. If memory serves, you can turn up on the Friday morning and pay your £10 entry fee on the day, so no need to enrol in advance - however may be worth checking the website or giving t...

Re: Croco-Liga team competition, starting in September 2012

Since everything reset following the trial period, I re-registered the Southern UK team today and at the same time I thought I was adding afcwarren to the team but I fear I may have inadvertently cancelled the invitation (apologies Warren - my A-level German was a long time ago now!). I now can't wo...

Re: Croco-Liga team competition, starting in September 2012

Southern team - I've been trying to start a discussion on tactics for this next round of puzzles in the mini-chat area, although it's rather difficult as the amount of characters you can write is quite limited! If everyone wants to state their preferences there though, I'm happy to have a go at redi...

Re: Any interest in a UK croco-puzzle ladder?

Well done Rodders. Very close all week, tied after the (delayed) tie-break, you win on total time. Couple of real stinkers in there week! Late on in the rundweg solve, I realised I'd made a mistake somewhere early, so started again, and did the whole thing in well under 10 minutes - wish I'd abando...

Re: Any interest in a UK croco-puzzle ladder?

I believe my rather enjoyable match against Alan has gone to a tie-break, and I've only just realised that I won't be anywhere near a computer from lunchtime today until Sunday afternoon. Is there any chance we can play our tie-break on Sunday? Appreciate that's very late notice, so if not I will co...

However, I haven't checked the daily results on the site to confirm this. Slightly embarrassed as if I have won, it looks to be by virtue of Ronald missing 2 more m...

Re: US Puzzle Championship (27 Aug 2011 1pm ET)

My first USPC and very enjoyable, although a rather disappointing performance. I think I scored around the 120 mark, but started 5 or 6 puzzles, panicked and then didn't have time to go back and complete any of them. My key error was not reading the last rule for Kaku Rogue - 'exactly one negative n...
